I have been trying for a few days to unzip a file from the UserTrack forum. Below is the description of the problem and as yet I cannot extract the style that is in the zip. I am using a Windows 10 PC and I believe the file was zipped on a Mac. Can anyone suggest an answer?

The file "EleFred Jazz Gtr (which is what I get when I download the 6 files on your box site) is a WinZip file. When I Unzip it I get:

EleFred JazzGtr.zip.001 102,400 KB
EleFred JazzGtr.zip.002 102,400 KB
EleFred JazzGtr.zip.003 102,400 KB
EleFred JazzGtr.zip.004 102,400 KB
EleFred JazzGtr.zip.005 102,400 KB
EleFred JazzGtr.zip.006 3,914 KB

None of these files can be extracted as their extension does not end with .zip

I see no place in WinZip where the option, "open first segment from within the program" is offered.

This is confusing to say the least. Unless, this is something that happens easily on a MAC and not on the PC.

I would really like to try these out but I am frustrated. I just hope this conversation we have had will help someone else or someone else will come up with a solution.

The standard Zip extractor that comes with Windows can't handle the split zip files. You need to get a different program to do so. 7-zip is free to use (just google it), and I believe (from what I've read on the web) will unzip the split files nicely. I believe you can also use WinRAR, and of course WinZip itself, but you'll have to pay for that.

I am at a loss to figure out how to take the 6 zip files and combined them into as one for extraction. When I use either 7-zip, WinZip or even Windows explorer I get the same results. I get the 6 zip files with extensions zip.001 through zip.006 in the extracted folder and not a BiaB .sty file that can be used in BiaB.

If I extract the first zip EleFred JazzGtr.zip.001 in 7-Zip or WinZip, it is extracted to JazzGtr.zip.001 (the same file as it started as). If I select all 6 together and extract then I get all six in the extracted folder and not a .sty file.

I guess I am completely misunderstanding how to work with split zip files.

Rich, you're making a wrong assumption here. These are not .sty files, they are Real Track files. RT's are wav's. When you load a style into Biab some styles are Real Track only and some are midi. After the style is loaded and the tracks generate you can then go into each instrument and change the RT to one of these User Real Tracks.

As for extracting them, I've only used WinRar but it's been a while since I had to do that. I think all you do is highlight the first one (001) and WinRar automatically combines them.

I just remembered, you don't use another program to extract them first, WinRar does the whole thing.

I got the files extracted using WinRAR. I don't know how I did it. Some attempts didn't work but highlighting a different file choice under WinRAR file menu did the trick.

Thanks for the tip on the difference between .sty files, RealTracks and User Tracks. I was making an incorrect assumption but once I got the file to combine and extract, I realize what I had. Thinks are so much easier to understand if you try them and aren't afraid to ask for help!

One of my favorite cliches is "Everything is easy once you know how to do it."

It's that "how" thing...
