I play several standards with 32 bar ABBA format. Am happy with creating chords and styles but not found a quick and easy way for the intro and format so end up with long song sheets. I'd appreciate advice on creating:

1. Intro with my chords, not ones chosen by BIAB which seems to happen using the edit function
2. AABA format

Thanks

Hi FoxTerrier.

I'm not sure that I fully understand your post. How I'm interpretting is that you would like to set out the chord sheet so that you could use repeats and maybe DS or DC to condense the song you are playing so that you didn't have a long chord sheet that lays out the song from beginning to end. Is this correct?

Hi Noel,

Yes, typical example is:

4 or 8 chord chord intro
A - 8 bars of chorus
A - repeat above- sometimes with different ending in last 2 bars
B - 8 bars of Bridge
A - back to 8 bars of chorus

Cheers

This may be as easy as just using the choruses control in the topbar, to the right of the song name, which contains three fields. This isn't obvious until one knows. For an AABA with 4-bar intro, 32 bars of chorus and three times through the chorus it would read 5 - 36 - 3. Codas/Tags/Outros can be trickier.

Description: Setting the chorus.

Hi FoxTerrier,

I'm presuming you mean the song format (AABA etc) and not the Swedish musical group's songs format (ABBA)?

Yes 😀

Here is an easy way to make an intro for an AABA song.

  1. Insert 4 bars at the beginning.
  2. Copy and paste either the last 4 bars of the first A section or the B section. They both usually lead into an A section. Try them both, depending on the song, one will sound better than the other.

If you want a shorter intro, sometimes 2 bars will work.

Thanks Noel, this worked a treat on a straightforward song.
