Is there some bug in the program regarding this?
I have all the notes the way I want them.
I correct all the note-based lyrics, and they look correct in notation view.
I save the song.
I play the song again, and the lyrics have spontaneously changed and are now incorrect.

I have done this about 4 times and feel like I am going insane.
Lesley,

I've had what you describe occasionally happen, too. It is a bug. For me, it usually happens with the lyrics that I change affecting lyrics at the beginning of the melody. I agree, it's frustrating.

What I do is when I get lyrics partly entered and correct, I ALWAYS save the song with a new name. Then, I enter some more and save with another new name (something like songname 1.mgu, songname 2.mgu, etc.). While this gives me many files, usually around a dozen, it also means that I can open a previous correct file and begin re-entering from there rather than enter the lyrics from scratch if something goes awry. Also, BIAB files are really tiny by today's standards and don't impact noticeably on disk space.

The issue has been reported to Development. Because it's seemingly random, though, it's very hard to track down and thus solve. I've been working on trying find how to reproduce it so that Team PG can get a handle on it and fix it. So far, reproducibility eludes me. If you stumble across what causes it, please send an email to support@pgmusic.com and let them know.

Noel
Glad to hear from you Noel!

I tried deleting all the lyrics and adding them again.
Things seem to go alright until bar 108, then things got strange.
The lyrics are just chromatic harmonica tabs, so they are fast to enter. I wasn't watching, then suddenly realized the lyrics were not going where they were supposed to go.

And what are the strange little diagonal lines under the top ledger line of the base clef?

It was a lot of work getting all the notes correct. 195 bars. I don't want to start over. I'll try saving it in a new file, but won't that just save the bug?

Is there some way I can rescue the melody and get it into a new file without the bug?

I pretty sure the problem began after inserting and deleting bars.
Wait---I was entering commas --that what caused the strange diagonal lines. So I am continuing to re-enter all the lyrics. I will save in a new file before trying to play the song.
Hi Lesley,

Thanks for the image, it really helps.

I've never seen those diagonals before. I suspect that they might be commas although I've used commas at the end of words many times and it's fine. It's possible that commas entered individually might behave differently.

Sometimes when a songfile misbhaves, it's worth opening in Realband then saving it in MGU format with a new name. Then open the new file in BIAB. Realband has been known to strip away whatever caused the problem. I can't guarantee that it will work but it's worth a try.

Regards,
Noel
Yes, they were commas --I'm an idiot. It is so easy to enter the tab lyrics that I was going too fast and not watching what I was doing. I entered a bunch of commas for one note.
I have the lyrics entered and the song saved in a new file. I will try playing it and hope for the best.

I have never used Real Band. I have a RB icon but when I opened it said it hadn't been registered and asked for a number. I will have to dig up the BiaB number and see if it works. I don't even know what RB is.
Saving it in a new BiaB file seems to have worked! I have played it twice without the lyrics messing up. And I was able to record it with camtasia.

Whew. I was about to give up .

Thank you Noel!
Glad to read it worked out, Lesley!

Realband is a handy trick to keep in mind. It doesn't always work but it's definitely worth trying.
Lesley, RealBand has to be registered, but the same code that you got for BIAB works for RealBand.
OK thanks Matt.
