There's the click on the blue box and make it green technique but that's pretty limited...

also, can the bridge or whatever is picked get a different mix on the last chorus.

Select the bar that you want the change to occur at with the mouse. Press function key F5. A dialog will give the option to make several changes to the song from that point forward. Make changes to other bars as required.

VideoTrack's F5 advice is spot on! However, be aware that any changes you make in the F5 window stay in place until you make another change.

For example, let's say you want to mute the bass for four bars starting at bar 5. While the cursor block is in bar 5 press F5 on the keyboard to open the F5 window. Select the drop down menu for the bass track and change the selection to -MUTE-. Advance the cursor block to bar 9, press F5 to open the F5 window and select the drop down menu for the bass track and change the selection to -return to normal-. The bass track will mute at bar 5 during playback and will remain muted for bars 6, 7 and 8 then un-mute at bar 9.

We should be able to set the length from there instead of having to change it in a different bar. That kind of bar hopping is kind of dry.

The blue/green marker is only one way to add/change instruments for your bridge. Each track in the BIAB mixer can have as many as 10 different instrument changes. You can create your own medley of various instruments that will play for a specified number of bars and change to another instrument, play on specified colored part markers to change or create your own custom medley.

You can have an instrument appear to move about in your song by having the same instrument appear in different areas of the song on different tracks that are panned differently.

Another interesting technique is to search for a particular artist so you have a list of the RealTracks sessions the artist appears in. Often you will find the artist plays the same instrument with the same setup across several different RealTracks. This fact allows you to spice up that instrument in your song by changing between the various RealTracks throughout the song. This effectively provides different strumming patterns in a rhythm instrument, different solo's, different picking patterns and will add life and more realism to your recording. It's a particularly wonderful technique to use for Bass parts.

A great example to see how the technique can work for a bass is Stealers Wheel song, "Everything Will Turn Out Fine" available to hear on YouTube.

Everything Will Turn Out Fine - Stealers Wheel

Don't overlook taking note of other artists that may consistently appear in RealStyles along with the artist you're searching. Many times you'll find the two artists are playing complimentary parts against each other and will produce really nice tracks together.

Finally, when searching by artist or similar style, you find a particular riff or phrase that you like and will work in your song and fits seamlessly because it is by the same artist using the same instrument, you can capture that riff or phrase and make a loop to use within your song. BB RT's provides hours and hours of pristine audio in isolated tracks that is prime to take audio for loops from.

thanks Jim,
Just what I needed. I wanted to play the 16 measure song 3 times: mute pedal steel on 1 & 3, but ON for loop 2. So, I guess copy and paste the 16 measures, and set the ON/OFF for Mute for 1 to 16 (mute) 17 to 32 un-mute...etc.
thanks for all you do!

There's no need to unfold the song to one linear chorus and copy/paste to mute/unmute the pedal steel track.
To play the 16 measure song 3 times and mute pedal steel on 1 & 3, but ON for loop 2, do the following:

Select Bar one of the 1st chorus
Select Bar Settings using the menu or F5
At the top of the Bar Settings window note the box following beside the words Settings Apply to All Chorus # - It defaults to "All Chorus'"
Use the small triangle to open the drop down window and you see a list of number choruses
Highlight Chorus 1
Select the pedal steel track and select 'Mute'
Highlight Chorus 2
Select the pedal steel track and select 'Back to normal'
Highlight Chorus 3
Select the pedal steel track and select 'Mute'
OK and exit the Bar settings menu

Generate and the following should occur:

Chorus One should play 32 bars with the pedal steel muted.
Chorus Two should play 32 bars with the pedal steel unmuted.
Chorus three should play 32 bars with the pedal steel muted.

Because you first selected Bar One before accessing the Bar Settings, the changes to mute/unmute occur on the first bar of each Chorus.
