Here's a simple folk song. Done with the MAC version of BIAB/RT. Hope you enjoy - thanks for listening.

"Calling Mary"

Starlight through a window
Reflections in the night
Desperation on TV
And ill-fated flights
Never mind the prayer books
Confessions to get right
Looking for an answer
Calling Mary tonight

Grieving to feel better
Passages in our lives
Some keep looking for Jesus
Or look to see the light
Giving up the smokes
The bottle and the ice
Asking for some comfort
Calling Mary tonight

Sunday school sermons
The Bible and the belt
Sometimes you're the dealer
Sometimes you just get dealt
Crosses made of silver
Gold and the like
There's no direct line
Calling Mary tonight

Possessions and positions
In life that's what we seek
Revelations become fewer
Some don't look before they leap
Get down on your knees
In the evenings fading light
Hear the thunder in the distance
Calling Mary tonight

Hi Bob,
Altho I'm not Catholic so praying to Mary is not what I do, you've written a thoughtful song with engaging lyrics, good vocal and the music arrangement is really nice.

Hi Bob,

Your lyrics really resonated with me. You've got some mighty powerful words and images in there. Coupling these with your haunting voice and the equally haunting musical setting, your song really made me think. I couldn't have stopped myself if I tried.

I really like your style of music.

Best regards,
Noel

Noel, thanks so much for listening and for your kind words. It's great to have a vehicle like BIAB to bring our songs to life.

I think I can see where you were going vocally with this song, but it kinda fell flat. I mean liteerally you started flat. You pulled together but? Hey ignore me, I'm no pro like I said I see where you were going with it and the vocal style gets you there.

Now to the spirit of the song, it confuses me a bit.

"some keep looking for Jesus" I think that is the way Mary would want it, isn't it? Mary would point the way but she would want you to know her son.

"there is no direct line"? are you saying you can't talk to the man himself?

Hi, Bob.

The music's not really my style, so there's not much to say there, other than it's my own loss.

But I love your writing. You've got a very poetic style that's evocative, but vague enough in the right places to be thought provoking.

Thanks for posting!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I lift up the Son not the mother, but still a very well produced song.

Hi Bob,
Music is such a wonderful medium for heartfelt devotion.
A lovely song of request for our Lady's petitions.
Keep composing.

This is not the type of music I normally listen to, but I learned a very long time ago that there are only two kinds of music, good music and bad music, and this is very good indeed IMHO!
Love the vocal, very emotive, and great job on the track too!

Much respect

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
