Hi All, here's a new song I just finished - it's all done in BIAB/RT, then exported to my Tascam DP-008 for vocals and mixing. Hope you enjoy - thanks for listening.

"Hawks"

Just another morning
The moon is growing dim
Snowflakes in the empty sky
Like whispers in the wind
I could stand here for hours
But the winters blowing in
Spread your wings and circle once again

Like a shadow on a meadow
Unbroken by light
She haunts my deepest thoughts
In the middle of the night
Like a songless Troubadour
Whose words are on the mend
Spread your wings and circle once again

An angel or a phantom
Memories can rob you blind
But I can still remember
What she looked like the last time
I saw her in the city
The way you recognize a friend
Spread your wings and circle once again

It's coming up on midnight
It's another cold December
And I should get some sleep
While the ghosts of time remember
The long golden strands
That twists in the summer wind
Spread your wings and circle once again

We sometimes spoke of children
The way you speak of plans
Neither of us settled down
Just held their unborn hands
We circled from afar
Like two hawks just closing in
Spread your wings and circle once again

Repeat first verse - end

Bob,

Good song as I mentioned on the other forum. Why don't you list the instruments used? You know, the song has a 12/8, 6/8 or swing feel, but the percussion seems to be 4/4 time -- is that right?

Kevin, thanks again. The style is EAGF_GF.STY (136 RS). The instruments are BossaRockPerc 1 Congas, 362 Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming EV 085, 365 Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking EV 085 and 120 BigPop Harmonica. The song does have a bit of a swing feel, but it is 4/4.

I am using eagf_gf.sty for a current song too -- but I switched out all the instruments, so I guess the style doesn't matter any more (ha, ha).

What is the RT# on that "120 BigPop Harmonica"? I don't have anything that matches that -- unless you mean #685, Harmonica, Background Pop Ev 120

That's it Kevin - it's named a bit differently on my Mac version of BIAB - but it's #685.

Nice stuff, as usual.

This is the sort of song that would be awesome to have a slow bowed bass or cello on... To bad there's no RealTrack of that yet...

One thing that struck me - it would have been nice to have a vocal bridge to break up the repetition of the verses. But the instrumental in the middle helps, and you did some nice bits in the melody to add variety. Yeah, you didn't ask for any crits, I'm just being bad...

Thanks for posting!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Bob,

This is a very tasteful composition and arrangement. The harmonica solo was an excellent choice. I think that I'm developing a taste for the more surrealistic approach to songwriting

Regards,
Noel

Do I hear a Roger McGuinn influence here? Had me wondering what it might sound like with a Rickenbacker.

Congratulations on your #1 ranking.

This song certainly deserves that position.

Great sound!

Hi Bob,

I love your lyrics especially "Spread your wings and circle once again"
what a great hook. This is one of your best songs!

(I'm sorry to be a bit late on posting but I've been sick and couldn't concentrate well enough to really listen. Feeling more myself now, thank God.)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
