For anyone interested the IK Multimedia Miroslav Philharmonik Classik Edition is on sale for $15 at Audio Midi . I downloaded it yesterday and has some very decent Orchestral sounds. Works fine in Realband and Windows7.

Am I correct in assuming this is not used with BIAB? (Mac version in my case).
I guess it would be used in Garageband or Logic AFTER importing from BIAB.
Is that correct? Has anyone used "Miroslav" with a Mac? Your opinion.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ernie, this is a software synth kinda like Sample Tank and is availabe upon install as a RTAS (Real Time AudioSuite) plugin and a VSTI plugin. The RTAS plugin is used in Pro Tools and possibly others. This program is available for the MAC on their website as you have a choice which one you download. BIAB can only use one synth at a time and since this is not a GM (general midi) synth it does not conform to the the GM standard and is lacking all of them sounds. So in other words it would not be a synth to replace your GM synth in Garage band or BIAB.

Why is this an imperfect addition to all of our bells and whistles...like my 492 Apple Apps...my Garage Band...my meriad of other things that are available...especially the many windows plug ins which make additions such as this $15 steal questionable.

I'm 77 and I've gone along with the flow since my 4 meg Apple "Power"Book, over a decade ago????? Apps like this work if you've got the proper plugins and a half decent sound card.

If you can't use it with BIAB, use it with GarageBand....if you can't use it with BIAB, use it with Sonar, or Cubase, Or D-Head ...or stay stupid and ignorant about what where your $15 bucks might push you. I go with parts of BIAB that of use to me, but my bag of tricks goes far beyond "it"! I've spent thousands over the past 40 years to keep up with what's available for musicians...in the studio and on stage.

I live on Social Security...what do you guys live on...????

BTW the sounds of this software are great...plus they let you try out a bunch of other stuff for free. Not every seller of software or hardware make like difficult because of the "moment" in their development history. Put your crooked toes in the water some time, and don't hang your hat on one itty bit of software available...have a selection of soft, hard, and plug-ins available at all times. Might make your existence more enjoyable while .......

Hey "Brother"..,15 "buckeroos" you can get this beautifully sounding philharmonic stuff...or, for the
exact same "small change" get lots of burgers and fries. Certainly a "no-brainer"!!

This is so worth it!

Just the first few orchestra patches are way more than worth the price....and there are hundreds more patches after that.

The download, setup and registration process are a major annoyance, or were for me anyway. Still worth it. Works fine in RealBand. I don't think it works in BiaB.

Srsly, y'all ought to give this a try. If any of you decides you would have been happier with the burgers, I will split the check with you.

Thanks for posting this! It really is a no-brainer. This was the other contender when I was looking for an affordable orchestral library, and $15 is a great price.

In comparison to GPO, the instruments seem to have a more "character" and more "realism". They also seem to have smaller loop points, so you've got to be careful with the sustained notes. They're not recorded dry, which has pros and cons.

Bottom line: there are some really nice sounds in there, and I'm really looking forward to being able to play with these.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Speaking of good deals, a friend of mine in the recording industry told me
about a DAW software package called REAPER, available for download on the net, that his company is now using commercially. He told me that the developers set out to directly target the likes of Pro Tools and all the other top end software on the market. I bought it about a month ago and I can tell you he is not kidding !!. This thing is a programing masterpiece. It's so intuitive and easy to use and does everything and more that Pro Tools and all the others do. The download file is only 5MB so it comes down in a flash.
Now I will get on to the good part...it is priced at US$40.00...no that's not a typo that's
four zero dollars. They do ask that if you are going to use it commercially and make a lot
of money that you pay US$150.00 however, if you don't expect to make more than US$20,000
a year out of it they are happy with US$40.00. It is all based on an honesty system
and you can download the fully functional program for free...no strings attached, and as they suggest, try it out for a couple of weeks and,if you like it, buy a license and if you don't, delete it. I should declare that I do not have, nor have I ever had, any association with the producers of this product and the only reason I have posted this
information is I believe its' producers have a similar ethic to our beloved PG Music
folk and that is.....price it so that everyone can afford it and let's have some
musical fun.
By the way REAPER will run all Pro Tools RTAS plugins' and also all Pro Tools external
hardware...You've gotta love it!!! I think there is more to the name REAPER than meets
the eye.
Regards,
Paul

Hi Mike,

Just to be clear REAPER is not a VSTi plugin, it is a fully operational Digital
Audio Work Station just like Pro Tools, Cubase, Nuendo etc. only better.
Enjoy,

Paul.

Hello All,

After the purchase, I received the necessary emails from Audiomidi to register my serial # with IK but that's as far as I got. Apparently I'm registered but haven't heard back from IK. Their FAQs didn't help either. Could easily be my fault.

After the field for the serial #, there's some king of Digital ID required, but it's implied that the software is already installed and I should have this ID. Beats me.

Anybody else have difficulty in just registering?

Hi Paul,

I was referring to the IK Multimedia VSTi. I already received my serial number and the files are downloading as I type.

Many people use Reaper as their DAW and they are very satisfied with it. I use Cubase 5.2 myself and I plan to upgrade to Cubase 6 shortly.

Fair enough, I have no brain then.

My preference has always been to use external MIDI sound modules in the intrest of:
- spending less time tinkering around with MIDI settings on the PC and more time playing/mixing/recording….
- not having to upgrade my PC because it can’t cope with the strain of handling a softsynth in addition to all the other stuff it is already doing.

After a lot of digging, I finally got a hold of someone at IK's Tech support. I was indeed registered, but wasn't forwarded a user name or password. The technician must have been fielding who knows how many calls...he kept putting me on hold because my call was taking longer than the minute or two he can allocate to each call.

After all the downloading, unzipping, authorizations and more, I'm still unclear if the sounds have been downloaded as per the instructions.

Just to reflect...Peter Gannon personally addresses forum issues; IK and others pretend they're the CIA. No numbers, no names.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
