Somebody help me please... I'm almost reduced to tears or signing myself into an asylum :-/
I created a song two days ago in BIAB 12, no problem, and went to do another today, got as far as creating a tag for it (just like I did in the one previous two days ago) but this time BIAB has decided to give me more bars thatn I specify.
Song form is: Intro 8 / Chorus 71 (x2) / Tag 92
I type in: Jump from 77 / Start at 80 / End at 172
And it gives me everything except creates extra bars and ends at 225
I've tried everything over and over again, I did this two days ago successfully in the other song, I've read the help files, tutorials, searched internet etc etc... PLEASE can someone help me!
I appreciate your time.. regards John.

PS: In case it helps/means something I've noticed that if I do a smaller number of bars tag it works up to about 140 but adds extra bars toward the end after a "gap" of about 8 blank bars... :-/

Hi,

Do you have your chorus set so that it starts on bar 9, ends on bar 79, and plays 2X ? What is your exact version of Band-in-a-Box, under Help-About?

Hi Andrew and thanks for the reply!
Version 2004
To complicate things my internet connection went yesterday so I couldnt check back :-/
Yes, I have the chorus set to start at 9, end at 79 and play x2 and my tag to jump from 77, begin at 80 and end at 172.
I have been working at it today and have discovered that although it creates extra bars the song does stop playing at 172, so it's not as bad as I thought as it's just a visual thing now.. the reason it didn't come to my notice in the first song I did was that the tag in that one ended at 108 and the problem only presents after about 140. I'm sorry for not having this info to leave in the first message but I was so engulfed in trying to fix what I saw on the screen that I didn't even try to play the song :-/ I would still love to know why it is doing this though. Today I noticed that I have an addional couple of quirks.. the 'from' button is only working in the first chorus even when I specify 'chorus 2', when I try it from the second or after the tag in say bar 93 it jumps back to maybe bar 16..? and when I double click on a bar it jumps to another and plays different chords than what are showing on the screen with the cursor moving along..? This isn't happening in my first song.. Have I possibly set this one up wrong? Maybe I should start from scratch?
Thanks for your timeAndrew, I appreciate it! John.

Hello John,

One thing you should do is download the latest update from
http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#74

To start your song playing from within the tag, you should be able to just click on From and select your second (last) chorus. Double-clicking will start it playing in chorus 1.

You can turn off the gray bars by going to Opt.-Preferences - uncheck 'display bars higher than end of song in gray'.

Try unchecking the Fakesheet box on the main screen - if extra "gray" bars show up when you do that, maybe you have accidentally set a repeat.

Ok Andrew, thanks! I'll check all that and get the upgrade and let you know how it goes. At least that explains the double clicking. But the from button still isn't working correctly as in if I specify a bar in the tag it still jumps back. I'll play around with what you've said above and see what happens. Thanks for your help! John.

Hi Andrew,
I did all that you suggested and everything is ok now except for when I use the from function in the tag/late in the song it plays from the correct bar but with no sound..?
I downloaded the upgrade thanks but I haven't installed it yet, I will soon.
Regards, John.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
