Hi Everyone,

I have a large number of RealBook BIAB files, including melodies. I would like to have all of these generated with RealTracks, have the melody generated with a VST plugin, and transfer them all to my iPod (I have BIAB 2011 and the iPod app). What is the easiest way to do this? If I simply put all of the individual files in the bb2Go folder and try to transfer them to the iPod using the BIAB server, will each song automatically be generated using the RealTracks? Or, do I need to first open and run each song to have RealTracks generated before moving the song to the bb2Go folder? In other words, is there an easy, automated way to batch process numerous individual songs using both RealTracks and a VST plugin for the melody?

Thanks!

Yes, you can do this, and it is a one-time procedure, and can be done in a batch mode.....here's how to do it:

1.
- Put the BB songs that you want in the folder c:\bb\BB2Go
- in BB, go to [main menu]- Winwows - BB2Go . This opens up the BB2Go dialog, where you see a list of all of your songs.
- If you want audio for all of them, then press Generate MP4 "FOR ALL SONGS"
You will then have mp4 files and your BB songs in the the BB 2Go folder
==================

2. Make sure that the BandInABoxServer.exe applet is running (you see a note icon on the system tray). If not, you can run it from the [main menu]- Winwows - BB2Go dialog.

3. Run your BB iPhone version. Choose File-Server and Connect.

4. Choose "Get All Songs". This will get all songs, including chords and the audio (including chords and melody as present in the BB songs). They will have RealTracks if the BB songs used styles that were realtracks.
Now, fire up the BB iPhone app,

I am really lost, PG. In another post dated today you say that the app isn't in the App Store yet. And in this thread you say "Run your iPhone version".

Confused....

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

We have 2 apps for the iPhone

#1 Band-in-a-Box for iPhone. This app has been in the app store since Dec. 2010. BB songs are stored and play on your iPhone. To generate new songs, you connect to desktop BB 2011 version.

#2 "BB Remote" for iPhone. This is the new one. This is purely a remote control for the desktop BB 2011.5 for Windows version. Songs play on the desktop version. You can control play, choose songs etc. from the iPhone, like a remote control of a TV.

Okay - I finally had a chance to try this out with multiple songs. I opened BIAB and generated MP4s for all the songs in my BB2go folder. The server is running, and I connect with the iPod app to get all the songs on my iPod. However, while all of the songs transferred most of the RealTrack versions did not, even though there are MP4s for every song in my BB2go folder. In other words, I see all of the songs on my iPod, but most are not the RT versions (only a couple are listed in green, which I understand indicates that they have already been generated with RealTracks). Moreover, when I try to play them, it looks to the computer with the server in order to generate them, which I thought was not necessary if I generate them beforehand. Finally, when I try to regenerate the list or restart the connection with the server, the app says that all of the songs are on the iPod, and there is nothing left to do.

Can someone please help me figure out what is going on? Thanks!

Lets look at one song that didn't transfer. Assume that the title of the song file is MySong.mgu

1. look in the c:\bb\bb2Go folder
Are there these 2 files:
MySong.mgu
MySong.mp4
If it isn't a YES, then choose File-BB2Go main menu in BB, and regenerate it.

2. On the iPhone, delete the song MySong.MGU. Then get it again, using File Get Songs menu item. It should show up as green in the list (if #1 above is answered as YES)

If you cannot get it working, please tell me the exact name of the file (instead of MySong.MGU) and what style it is using.

Thanks, Peter - deleting the songs on the iPod and re-"getting" them seems to have done the trick!

Ugh - this is happening again. All of my apps were deleted when upgrading my iOS, and when I reinstalled BIAB on the iPod, all my songs were gone. All of them are rendered and in the B2BGo folder. When I connect to the server and "get songs," they all appear to transfer, but as soon as I sign off the server the audio is not showing up as present (all of the songs in my song list on the iPod are black, not green). In other words, I believe the songs and audio have transferred, but no audio is on the iPod. Please help - thanks!!

PS - the songs are in a variety of styles (mostly jazz and blues).

Does anyone know why this would happen again? Basically, I wiped out all of the BIAB songs on my iPod, and then re-transferred them from B2BGo (they were previously rendered, and all of the MP4s are in the folder). However, none of the audio actually transfers to the iPod. I deleted all of the songs again from the iPod and tried again, with the same result - no audio transfers. This is very strange and frustrating. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,
When you transfer songs iPod to desktop Windows version, only the song transfers, not the Audio. You can regen the audio easily, by visiting the BBB2Go dialog and choosing "Generate mp4 For All Songs"

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to re-transfer the songs from my desktop (Windows) to my iPod, as the iPod was wiped out. All of the audio is already in the BB2Go folder on my desktop computer. If I choose "Generate mp4 for all songs," in the BIAB dialog box, won't it tell me that audio is already present for all of them?

Thanks!

Please help - the weekend is coming up, and I would love to get my full audio back on the iPod!!

Would it help if I deleted all songs from the iPod, deleted all audio from the B2BGo folder, regenerated the audio and then tried to retransfer it? I would rather not have to delete the audio from the B2BGo folder, but will if I have to.

Thanks!!

Why not MOVE those songs (or copy and paste before deleting) to another, separated folder created for the purpose, rather than delete them?

That way, you could always put them back if needed in future, but could still perform that experiment, which may just solve your problem.

Thanks, Mac - that's a good idea. I was just trying to avoid having to regenerate the audio for all those songs, as there are many of them, but it seems like that is the only choice I have left - I can't get anything else to work .

Okay, I am at my wit's end with this now. I completely deleted the BIAB app and reinstalled it. Then, I tried to "get all songs" from the server - all of my songs in the B2BGo folder have a SGU or MGU file and a corresponding MP4 file. The iPod says "downloading file" and "downloading audio" for each of the 97 songs in the folder, but as soon as I turn off the server on the desktop I cannot play the audio on the iPod. Is there a setting that I am missing that was mistakenly changed (maybe by the iOS) that causes BIAB to not see the file? Is there something in iTunes that I need to change to permit the BIAB app to accept the audio? Where exactly on the iPod are the audio files stored? Can I simply copy and paste the audio to that folder on the iPod?

Thanks again everyone for your help. Right now my BIAB app is completely nonfunctional.

Maybe this is a hint about the problem - when the iPod says it is "downloading audio file X" at the bottom of the screen during the transfer, the X file name that is listed there ends with extension .txt. Of course, all of the audio files in my B2BGo folder have an .mp4 extension, and there are no .txt files in that folder. It seems, then, that the iPod is not downloading the .mp4 files at all, and is trying to download a .txt file that doesn't exist. This would also explain that once all of the songs are "transferred", none are listed in green on the iPod until I try to play one, it connects to the server and "generates the audio"; this should not have to happen if the audio has already been transferred to the iPod.

Hi,

We identified what could cause the problem, and have updated the app. The update should be available in the app store in about a week.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
