How would I export separate real tracks from BIAB to another sequencer such as cubase.

One way, which I think is the easiest, is to use BIAB's feature called Drag & Drop. Open your sequencer then open BIAB. Play your song, then click on the DAW Plugin button. Examine the options.

My sequencer is SONAR, and the easiest way I do Drag & Drop is to drag the BIAB Combo button into a SONAR project. It takes some time (minute or two), but you see the radio buttons change as each track is generated and copied. No fuss.

Another way, of course, is to render each track in BIAB to a .WAV file. All sequencers can load those files into individual tracks. It's generally called "import".

Please elaborate if there is any part of the process you may need more help with.

Yes, you can drag and drop.
You can either:
1. drag directly from the buttons at the top of the screen ("Bass" "Piano" etc.) to Explorer,
or
2.first drag to the "Drop" button, and then drag from there to Explorer or your DAW.

I prefer method #2, since the file immediately drops once it has been prepared in the Drop station.

Here's a video showing you method #2

Thanks guys for the very fast response. I forgot to mention I will be saving first to an external hard drive. But, I guess I can drag directly into it. Gonna try that.
Again...thanks!
Oh yeah....a big HOWDY to all my old friends here. Haven't chatted with you guys for ages.

Matt - something I don't understand
How can you have have BIAB open, and Sonar, yet not have the system give you a message such as
"resources etc already in use". I use XP.

Method 1 - Use MME in BiaB and ASIO in Sonar. That would likely be the issue.

Method 2 - If it truly is a resource problem (memory) add some RAM or get a better system

Method 3 - Get the new version that can use the Multi-ASIO client from Steinberg and you can have multiple programs using ASIO (I suspect this would still require a fairly new system). I think it pays attention to which program is in 'focus' but maybe it really can wrap multiple programs to an ASIO stream. It'll be interesting to hear the opinion of others.

How 'bout that response with the new mixer video right away? Very impressive

Ian, I use Bob's method #1. This is nothing special: BIAB has the DAW Plugin Mode that is designed to be used where both programs are open (although you don't have to do it that way). I'm not sure XP has anything to do with it, although I use Windows 7.

Bob, yes, I was impressed. I answered the OP's question ten minutes after he asked it, and while I was doing that, Peter was making a video of the answer! And this isn't the only post where it seems he makes videos on the spot to answer questions. What a guy.

Agreed! Peter really went above and beyond. That's another reason people love PG Music.

If you are attempting to use ASIO sound drivers in both BIAB and the DAW program, you will likely encounter error messages as the two programs are in conflict for the one driver.

Changing one of the two programs to use the Windows Sound driver should eliminate that problem.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
