This is another redo from BIAB to RB. The title came from knowing a gal a couple of years back who ran off to LA to seek fame and fortune on the arm of a rich guy in the music business. Had she stayed here, it would have been interesting to see if things went anywhere, but I can't compete against a guy with his kind of money. Thus the title.....

Snowball's Chance In Hell

All you people who kept telling me "mix the vocals out front more".... Okay, here they are. And don't say I didn't warn you....

I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."

Hey Eddie,

One teeney thing I would suggest is a pop filter for your vocals. There were things about this song I liked - I think it has potential with a little more polishing.

You're talking about the panty hose in a hoop kind of thing right?

I noticed the preponderance of P's popping on playback too. And I love alliteration!

The biggest thing I need for this batch of songs is twang. I am not that great of a singer to start with, and for this CD I need someone who can "sang", not "sing". I don't have that little "break" in my voice at exactly the right time, the distinct pronunciation of country phrasing... BUT... there is a guy here in Cleveland that DOES, and we are talking back and forth about him recording the 4 of my songs I really like best so I have something to shop. I can't imagine ANY producer listening to that nasal droning I call singing for more than 15 seconds before diving for the stop button. I might have to take the guy out for wings and an adult beverage after the session, but what's a dozen wings if it ends up with my winning Songwriter of the Year when Brad Paisley covers my song, right?

Thanks for the input!

Hey Eddie,

I'd like to hear them again when you get your country vocalist. So I hope you'll update the posts when you do that. Nothing against your voice but I totally agree with you that the right singer can give a tune a whole new life.

Josie, to be honest, I HATE my voice. HATE IT!!! I am just SO midwestern and white.....

I have been away from music since 1994. In 2009 and old friend asked if I could help her with some stuff. (I didn't know she meant music... <wink wink>) SO I set the studio back up, started buying stuff on eBay and Craigslist, and she came down and worked on some of her writing.

Then, online, she met a guy in the business who convinced her he would make her a star. And he has a good amount of money, which she spoke of often as "an upgraded life style". So after an inexplicable amazing night before she left, she headed off to start her new life. I was not in a position to say "Hey stay here and let's be a team." as I was not really interested in having a woman permanently in my life, and that's what a statement like that would have meant. So.... off she went. And besides not wanting to be in that kind of relationship at that time, I also couldn't compete with what he could do for her because he is wealthy.

And that's what that song is about. Because to try and compete with a rich guy, I don't stand a snowball's chance in hell.

Very nice song, Eddie, and I enjoyed having your vocal more out front.

Eddie,

That's a very strong song, the lyrics work well and I think it has potential for being published. I'd hawk it around and don't think twice about whether the demo is perfect or not; someone who's interested will just listen to the topline melody and lyrics. They'll have just one thing in their head 'can I make money off this?'

Vocal: actually, I think your voice 100% suited the message being delivered in this song! Aside from the popshield issue, I think you also put too much reverb on it (which people often do when they're self-aware of their singing voice), or you've got a tad too much room ambience?

Good luck with this one, it's got legs!

John

Hi Eddie,
I love the song. I know what you mean about not having the right voice for certain styles of music.
Way back I was in a band that played some WHO songs. I was the only one that had the range to hit the high notes.
Boy was I the wrong guy to sing WHO songs. I sounded like a choir boy singing "My Generation." It sounded horrible.
They kept telling me to put more feeling into it. The more I put in the worse I sounded.

Hi Eddie,
I went gave it a couple more listens. I really like your voice in this one.
I know what you mean about hating your own voice. A lot of people realy can't even listen to themselves. I like this one a lot.
Try another singer, just don't be so quick ruling out your own vocals. I like them.
I love when you say "I sound so white!" I sounded like a 13 year old until I was about 30. We can't all be Elvis.
Thank you, thank you very much, Wayne, (bad Elvis impersonation)

Sang it yourself Eddie! You don't need no punk stepping on your creativity -- wanting to change things up and screw with your work.

If you want that hick style go get it! What one man can sang another can sang. You can learn in... just gotta let go of the inhibition to do it because you think you sound wrong. Screw what people expect in Cleveland and sang like a hick!

A few months ago Dan (Shockwave) posted a series of videos on recording in BIAB

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRSTV-iaPns&feature=player_profilepage

He's got a pretty Midwest accent but carries hick in the song wit no problem. You can do that.

I've heard worse voices (mine for example) who sing for people all the time.

Get the pop filter $20 (or a nice pair of stocking hose from Loehmanns if your so inclined).

Also it sounds like you are restraining your voice a bit. I had a bud who did that because he was recording with a condenser and his voice was far to hard for that so he sang in a restrained manner. He bought a good dynamic and started singing loud a proud... made a the difference I tell ya. Perhaps and a good dynamic mic a belt it!

Hi Eddie,

A great listen. I found myself tapping my foot and humming along about 1/3 of the way into the song. Good luck with it!
