Well, after being off for a couple of weeks, recovering from a hospital stay for strep throat that put me in ICU, I am back! I just wrote this one, really for my grandkids. It's a pretty radical departure from my normal "style". It is sort of a kids/adult song called Party In The Woods Tonight. All the instruments are RealTracks/RealDrums. All the vocals are me. I hope you enjoy it!

Party In The Woods Tonight

Here are the lyrics...

Party In The Woods Tonight
Music and Lyrics Copyright Stephen W. Young

In the evening when the sun goes down
Tom the cat starts making his rounds
Checking every yard in his domain
He's the coolest cat for miles around
Throws the biggest parties in town
if you listen close, you can hear it all begin

When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down
There's a party in the woods tonight

That Jack the rabbit sure can dance
If Sly, the fox will just give him a chance
Hoppin and boppin to the latest nocturnal sound
Hal the owl has found his groove
His body still, but his head can move
And everybody knows his favorite band

When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down
There's a party in the woods tonight

When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down
When the sun goes down
There's a party in the woods tonight

Hey Steve,

Welcome back!!!

What a fun little ditty for the grands! Sounds like you were having a blast doing it too.

BTW, your voice sounds great especially having just recovered from that awful strep ordeal.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Glad to hear you are on the mend Steve. You should do more of this style, it's great. Superb backing and guitar work.
I'm still recovering from my back problem so restricted to what I can do so I know how frustrating it must have been to be away from it.
regards. Jeff

It all sounds "real" -- ha, ha. Of course the trick is to mix them all together to make them sound just right -- and you are real good at that. I like that "stop" section at 1:51. Cool lead work, too -- it all fits. maybe a tad too much reverb on the lead vox, but that's a minor thing.

Nice work and write.

welcome back, steve!

this song is wonderful and has several great biab teaching points.

1. fading the second guitar into the background in the middle grabbed me back to reality.

2. the false ending was a Way kewl" surprise.

you, sir, have raised the bar with that'n.

thank you for sharing.

Good to have you back, Steve, and bopping along again.
Loved the rhythm of this one and I'll bet it gets the
grandkids clapping their hands. Good hook/chorus, very commercial I think.

Cheers - Ian

Chris (Sinbad),

Thanks so much for your very kind words! Glad you liked it.

Bob,

As always, thanks for your comments! Very much appreciated.

Kevin,

Thank you very much! Yep, RealTracks sound pretty real, don't they!
When I did the mix last night, it was after my wife went to bed, so I did it totally with headphones (which I never do). So I just did a little remix, and made some adjustments to my vocals. Still has a lot of echo (on purpose - just because I wanted it there), but I tried to make it just a little more palatable - if you care to give it another listen.

Don,

Why, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. I am always trying to do things differently. Sometimes they end up train wrecks - I try not to post those. But BIAB is such an awesome tool for us. A real blast to work with!

Jan,

Thank you so much!

Danny C,

Once again, thanks!

Ian,

Thanks very much for your kindness! I'm hoping to get to play it for the grandkids tomorrow. We've been playing phone tag. I do appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
