Rachael, I believe you're right. At least with that there is no delay. I will get one, afterall, a footswitch is a footswitch right? I don't care if it's attached to the computer or the keyboard!

I am sorry I've been such a pain and I truely appreciate the help from all of you.

Changing to a hardware synth yes.

You have the problem of latency on playback, and in your case I don't see much of a workaround.

I just looked at that switch and indeed you can map it to start band in a box, but I 'd freeze tracks before I do that.

the usb foot switch they describe on the details for that type of footswitch show it to be just a switch goes to usb and the computer thinks it's just part of the keyboard.

the biggest problem will be the delay. I have looked at the latency and I have it set as low as it will go. I tried it and I hit two beats before it comes in. There any fix for that?

Freezing tracks? Conductor features? jukbox?

I have always used either my keyboard and recently a foot switch to start BIAB and I have done this both a soft synth and now an external synth. If I remember correctly I was never able to rempove the delay at the start with a soft sythn no matter what I did but there is no problem with an external synth. Sometimes the soft synth start delay was very short but very irritating.

Whenever BIAB won't stsrt when you want it to just look at BIAB's keyboard. If the keyboard keypress shows up then BIAB should start. If it doesn't show up then the first thing I do is open "Opt/MIDI audio driver setup" and check that the midi input driver is set correctly. Sometimes, and I don't understand this, just opening and closing this audio driver setup window without changing anything resets the driver, the keyboard presses show up and BIAB will start.

using the conductor
If you want to control the Conductor using the MIDI keyboard, you need to
enable this by selecting the checkbox “Enable control by MIDI keyboard.” When this setting is enabled, any MIDI
input will be interpreted as a hot key for the Conductor, and you won’t hear MIDI thru.
If you’d like the ability to switch your MIDI keyboard
between Conductor mode and regular playing mode, you can do this using the lowest “A-natural” MIDI note on
your keyboard. This is A1 on an 88-note keyboard. Note A1 will turn the Conductor off, Bb1 turns it on, and B1
will toggle the Conductor on only when the Bb1 note is held down. If you don’t have an 88-note keyboard, you can
set the octave setting to a number higher than 1, for example if you set it to “3,” then notes A3/Bb3/B3 will turn the
Conductor Off/On/Toggled.
Using the Conductor QWERTY or MIDI keys, you can: ( see page 97 in the manual for more)

the idea is to start the biab song, with the volume down then use the conductor function to start play from a specific spot with the volume up

since the song would already be playing load time may not be an issue

no i haven't tried it just an off the wall idea

how many tines during a performance is this an issue?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
