Here's a little song about a place near to where we live, called The Dark Corner. It's been famous (or infamous) for the manufacture of corn sqeezins (Moonshine) for many generations.

Bob & Penny,

Your music, Vocals, paint a great picture of "Dark Corner".
The beat for the song is great, the pickin is very good.

"Marie Laveau" genre !

Thanks for sharing you folks hard work !

reminds me of a cross between MONEY, RIDERS ON THE STORM and something by Tennessee Ernie Ford.

I liked it. Catchy tune. Was any of that done in BIAB or RB? there were no credits listed at the top of the thread. Tell us a little bit about the production.. who did the backing vocals? What kind of gear was used? etc etc

By the way, you have a great voice!

Money,Riders On The Storm, and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Now THAT'S a combination! . I agree with Pat. Catchy tune, and good vocals to boot(leg)!

Keep it up!

Up there north of GV near that really cool looking plateau area. My brother and I were coming back from NorCar last time i was there and he was telling me about the area.

By the way, the song is spot on as usual the vocal smooth and well set in the mix. The over all instrumentation very good. i loved the melodic guitar lead. Simple and precise. i did not think you over reverbed this one, as it was appropriate for the song.

Bob, Penny:

You've got a great story happening here. I seriously think you need to add a verse or two for resolution.
It's got a great musical build up going on lyrically and Im wondering what's going to happen next . . . .and it doesn't.
- great vocal chops - you've definitely got a style that suits your vocal. Made me want to haul out my blues harp. Very much in the Tony Joe White vein - chomp, chomp - love his stuff, but I don't have the voice to do it - you're fortunate.
Did you start with a BIAB Style?

I think you've got a very strong song here - but I think you need to finish the story. IMHO

Cheers and best - Ian

Thanks Rob. I'm really trying to control my reverbitis, but it's an uphill battle!

I work with some local guys who get their shine up at Dark Corner. They told me that the true test of good shine is to pour a small amount into a bottlecap and light it. If it burns blue, it was probably distilled in an old car radiator - bad. If it burns clear, it's 100% White Lightnin'.

Pat -

Thanks for the kind words. The backing was BIAB/RB (I forget how to find out the style info in BIAB). My wife Penny did the background vocals. We've been playing together for over 30 years.

We used a Studio Projects T3 tube mic through a Focusrite Saffire 6 interface into Sonar 8.5.3. The lead guitar was an Ibanez Artcore 335 hollowbody copy direct in with some Sonitus reverb.

Bob

Ian,

Thanks for the kind words. I don't know about 'resolution' though - I really said all I wanted to say. It's just a sketch of a local landmark, not a story, per se.

Coincidentally, there's a new bar in town that is actually selling moonshine, aptly named The Dark Corner, and I'm hoping to sell this song to them for advertising use. I had no idea they even existed until after I wrote the song, so it's a bit weird.

Dark Corner notwithstanding, I will stick to my Kentucky Bourbon. I haven't gone blind yet!

Tommy -

Just drive up to Dark Corner and look for a roadside stand selling peaches. A wink and a nod and you're in business.

Or, you could just contact these folks here in Greenville, and order some.

I think you've finally found the balance for your vocal reverb.

It's a nice, smooth mix. Exactly unlike the 'shine you're singing about...

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
