First the computer specs.
Dell Dimension E510
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz 2.79GHz

Installed memory (RAM) 4.00 GB (2.99GB usable)
Windows 7 32-bit operating system
Graphics rated at 1.0
No sound card, just what the motherboard has built in.

I was wondering how it's possible for one to record audio onto a computer using a rocksmith cable. The computer recognizes it, I get audio if I right click audio on windows start menu bar, click recording or playback devices, properties, and enable the "listen to this device"(the guitar plays clean), but I can't seem to get audio to playback through powertracks. Step by step I'm doing this.

1. plug usb-end cable into computer, computer downloads drivers,
2. plug guitar-end cable into guitar.
3. load powertracks, no input and only two outputs available are Microsoft Midi mapper and Microsoft gs wavetable synth so i select one because the piano on the program wont play sound unless some output is chosen(doesn't matter which one?).
4.Now I'm at the main screen on PT so I click the VU meters and they do detect the audio from my guitar, but no sound?. piano still works.
5. click guitar tuner and yep, it picks up the guitar as well, but no sound.
6. I then tried to Record and the warning dialog box appeared "no midi devices record anyway? I did and when i stopped Powertracks had detected the audio from the guitar and recorded it.

I really want to hear my guitar through powertracks so i can hear whats being recorded and possibly and personally add/tune effects that came with the program at the same time. The guitar plays clean

fruit loops can do this so i thought why not? my good ol powertracks should be able to do something right?

So again basically I don't hear anything until after I press the red recording button and playback what I just recorded. I just can't figure out how to hear the audio through the speakers at the same time(before recording). Besides the whole "right clicking volume on start menu bar."(I can't use the effects this way)
Thank you very much for taking the time to help me and I'm very grateful for any advice.

If you're wanting to hear the guitar with effects on as you play, you need to be using ASIO drivers. If you are, then go to OPTIONS - PREFERENCES - AUDIO and check the box for ENABLE INPUT MONITORING. You should now hear your guitar. To add effects, click the DX button to launch the dialog and scroll down to INPUT MONITOR. You can then add up to four effects. If you want to record these effects in real time, go back to AUDIO PREFERENCES and check the box for ALLOW IM EFFECTS RECORDING.

If you're not on ASIO drivers you can download some from www.asio4all.com

Number 6 sounds like you recorded to a MIDI track, but because you have selected 'record audio too if track is MIDI' checkbox as enabled, so PTW saved the recording even though you set it to the wrong track type. Make sure to set track type to audio before recording.
Right-click on a track for menu

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I downloaded the latest asio4all from the website. clicked options, preferences, audio, and both boxes were already checked, but no sound. Also when I pressed record it didn't detect the guitar audio like it did before, instead the asio driver was recording? Any ideas? How do I reset preferences in PowerTracks? maybe I changed some things before and didn't realize it. Thanks so much for helping me out.

Go back to AUDIO PREFERENCES and make sure ASIO is selected as AUDIO DRIVER TYPE.

Next, click on the DRIVERS box and select ASIO4ALL as your driver. Then choose your USB device as the input and whatever you've got connected to your speakers as the output.

If it still doesn't work, get back to us.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
