I have had BIAB awhile but when i used it, it was always using the midi style's. So, I have some questions about rendering a realtrack .sgu file to .wav.

It seems that all the instruments that play fine in BIAB are not there during the rendering. Anyone have any idea why and how to resolve?

I am using Version 2008.5 (265)
thanks in ad vance

We need to know more about your source of sound. Are you using a hardware synth or software?

As I mentioned in your other thread, it's going to be hard for us users to help you since your version is eight versions back, and I at least can't remember exactly what it was like then. For example, was there a checkbox for DXi in that version's MIDI Out window? Perhaps we can solve it, though, if you tell us about your system and exactly what settings you have in the MIDI Out window.

Make sure you have at least one DXi synth installed, even if it's just the CoyoteWT that comes with BIAB. You don't have to use it, but it seems to me you needed to have it available to be able to render, even if your tracks were all RTs.

I could be wrong, but it's worth a try. I couldn't tell which version of BIAB you were running, though.

Hi Doug662,

If what you're looking for is your product version and/or details head over to your "Help" menu in Band-in-a-Box and check out the "About Band-in-a-Box" section.

If you are using a Mac system, head over to the Band-in-a-Box tab at the top part of your Mac's screen and choose "About Band-in-a-Box".

Regards,
Ricardo

hi, i know what version is on this pc, i just cannot render realtrack .sgu's but i can the midi .sgu files. See my friend has a home/office recording studio. I bought some of his things when he upgraded and 2 of his recording pc's. Version 2008.5 (265)
is on this and i have been using it to create .sgu files not using the real tracks. Now i have heard them and they do play what i program, they will not render completely {instruments missing). But, the .sgu's with midi files does render

Are you saying that when you hit the play button, the RealTracks sound fine, but when you render, the instruments are missing? 2008.5 is too far back to remember exactly if there were any such problems (as there have been several versions since).

Seems to me that v2008 was the first version to include RealTracks (2007 included ReaDrums), so even with 2008.5, there are only going to be a handful of RT's available. You might want to think about upgrading to 2012 (or the anticipated 2012.5, hopefully coming out soon). Okay, sorry, commercial over...

Anyway, if you are running on 64-bit, make sure that you are running the BIAB files as administrator. I'm not telling you to, but I have UAC turned off on my computer and have no problems with the PGMusic programs.

I would try right clicking on your BIAB icon and select Run as Administrator. My understanding is that once you do that one time, the setting sticks for each time you run it.

Hey Doug662

The fact that you are using a 64bit computer actually does make a difference in some cases, probably in this one as well.

What we have done with our most recent versions of Band-in-a-Box is add 64bit support by changing over from our older Roland VSC (32-bit support) to our now primarily used Coyote WT (has both 64 and 32-bit support).

Because of this change over from 32-bit to 64-bit included synths, what may be happening is that your computer does not have 64-bit synths installed, so it cannot use VSC, and as such, won't be able to render some types of sound.

The reason MIDI IS rendering is most likely because of the fact that Band-in-a-Box defaults to using Windows built-in MIDI drivers, which allow MIDI rendering.

Your next step will be to find out what VST or DXi is currently being used (probably none) and looking into either upgrading your Band-in-a-Box for a free 64-bit synth or try looking into getting a 64-bit compatible VST or DXi.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Ricardo

*Edit* Sorry, I had this reply ready for a while so I missed those posts in between, my bad guys

Hi, Doug -

I would recommend you call PGMusic. They might even be able to take control of your machine and help you figure it out. Many of us are doing what you are trying to do, so I imagine the problem is something pretty simple.

jford does have a point there. If I, or any other PGMusic tech, could at least use join.me with you, we could see what's going on with your particular setup and give you something other than just general guidelines and help.

Play around with your VST set-up a little though, as that's what's responsible for some rendering, which seems to be related to these problems.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
