Hi all,
On July 4th I was messing about with my old 2008 version of BIAB.I put something together using drums, piano, and pedal steel country chord stylings and started singing along with the results.I imported all this into PropellerHead Reason, substituting the GM piano sound for an Abbey Road "Mrs Mills" one, played some Abbey Road organ, double tracked my old Guild acoustic, and added walking bass line.I had only occasionally jammed to BIAB since I'd bought it,but now realize it's great potential as an inspiring and useful musical tool.Have really enjoyed listening to the user music here...some very talented folks abound!
Cheers,
Tony C (AKA Anthony Fabulous)

Hi Anthony,

I really enjoyed listening to this. It's a testimony to how good MIDI can sound when mixed with live playing.

Regards,
Noel

Fantastic adaptation of this great song. Nice job. Really a rocking version. Great use of BIAB and incorporating other instruments into the mix. I like this one alot.

Hi, Tony -

Nice job with ATB. I also listened to Man Of Authority - Pilate's Blues. Very cool.

That is way cool! Nice performance and well recorded. Sorry I didn't compliment you sooner.

I'd like to know more about how you put it together. I just got Reason 6 as my primary DAW with the intention of using BIAB (currently 2009.5) to create my beds and then porting them into Reason for massaging and elaboration. What version of Reason do you use? How exactly did you get the Real Tracks into Reason? Did you simply import the MIDI and revoice, or was there more to it than that? I'd love any other insights you can offer, too.

Thanks for sharing.

Richard

Hi Richard, glad you liked the tune.
I use Reason 6.5(got the upgrade for one dollar!).
The BIAB midi and real tracks were quite easily exported.
I saved the song as a midi file with the option for saving the real tracks.
Also made sure to save midi drums on separate tracks as well.
Opened a new blank Reason project and just imported everything in two steps. You should first be sure that the real track files match your Reason project/settings as far as bit rate etc. Also you should set the Reason project to the same BPM as what your BIAB song was.
After importing ,I tried various Reason Refill sounds for the piano until I settled on The Mrs mills one.Since I had also saved the real drums as a midi file I was able to add a bit of Reason bass drum to oomph that end up a bit. Then just added my vocals and organ ,guitar and bass playing.Muted some of the pedal steel and piano where it seemed appropriate.Hope that helps.Reason and BIAB are a good combo for me,though BIAB probably works well in conjunction with any DAW?

Tony C

Yes, but as we all know (well, almost all) *snicker* Reason has some very special capabilities of its own, such as being one of the baddest soft synths and romplers around.

How long have you been a Reason user? I have poked a stick at v. 3 for several years but am getting serious with 6. I'm currently taking an online course courtesy of Manchester MIDI School (midischool.com). Check it out. Thanks for answering my earlier questions. I'm hungry to learn all I can about workflow.

I'm active on the PH forums under the same username. Hope to see you there!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
