Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted here, but I'm back with a new song. I hope you have some time to listen to it and tell me what you think of it.

You know when the song started - I was thinking it was like a space movie soundtrack then very pleasantly surprised by the guitars really nice arrangement - good work - overall - i like it. I would probably change that clunky ending.

Very nicely done, except the ending does need some work, I think. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work. I liked the harmonies on the guitar work. The ending needs to let you down a bit easier, though. Pretty abrupt.

EXCELLENT up to the ending, but that has already been said.

I believe this is your best to date. Just polish the ending and you will have a keeper.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I think it could use some more variety but I don't know much about that type of music.

Wow, I really liked this! Well done Superbron.

(1) Make that nice fade ending fade RIGHT out, it cuts off just a second or two before it should.
(2) Bookend it by making it fade in at the intro. it starts abruptly so matching the intro to the end with a long fade in would be cool.
(3) At 5 minutes it's too long without other slightly different themes to hold the interest, and that's mainly because the intro is too long (1:17), so I'd fade it in (per 2) from where the 1 minute marker now is.
(4) Maybe the drums need to come up a tad.
(5) To add some contrast, about two thirds through pause the guitars theme for eight bars, copy and insert eight bars or so of the strings only intro theme (quiet), then come back in again with the guitars (not so quiet).
(6) Maybe pan the guitars a little L and R.

Here’s a (very!) rough sketch of what I mean for points 1-3 and 5 above:

Great work, Superbron!

That will do nicely! It sounds very good now - a polished, finished product.

Thanks, I have uploaded a new version with louder drums. Aren't they too loud now? I find it hard to get a well balanced mix, does anybody have some tips and tricks for that?

No, they're not too loud at all, well not to me anyway. It's obviously all a matter of personal taste and depends on what other 'models' you have in your head for this genre of music, but i must confess if I were mixing this track I would make the drums even louder! This is because to me the piece doesn't sound like an ethereal 'whispy' piece about time travel; it more reminds me of a band like King Crimson and as such it would have rock band hallmarks such as the style of guitar sounds you've recorded, and reasonably aggressive drums to match. Well, that's just the way I hear it!

On mixing - this is an enormous area and learning how to get the mixes we're hearing in our heads is a lifelong learning experience I believe. I once contacted some guys on the Sonar forum who posted a song that had the kind of mix I like, crisp and clear and powerful where it needed to be. I kept their reply in the binder that I keep of all my notes that I gather on techniques, and it's in this Word document. Check it out and see if it helps:

Very solid mix and super guitar work, thoroughly enjoyable. I can just see myself sitting back with a nice coctail and enjoying this tune fronting a laser light performance, as per Mick's quote above.

I would like to hear more as to what styles and instrument choices you made in putting this one together if possible?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
