i have a 12-bar blues in the notation window and want to print the changes with staves.

i select file > print song > OK-preview and i get a pretty nice image with staves + chords.

but when i click 'print' from that window i get back to the print options window and then if i click OK-print all i get are empty staves...

1. What version of BIAB do you have?

2. In the Print Options menu, do you have three checkboxes in the upper left corner, and is "Chords" checked?

3. If #2 is OK, did you try Opt., Return to Factory Settings?

running Version 2012 (348)

yes: print > include: chords was selected

return to factory settings didn't correct this...tho now (i'm a clarinettist) i have to go back and figure out how to turn BIAB into a Bb instrument once again, but that's ok, i should know that how to do that!

oh my, now BIAB doesn't even play - i guess RESET removes its ability to make noise (something to do with MIDI settings i suppose)...

Yes, there is also a 'lesser' reset command that leaves the MIDI drivers alone. Select "MOST".

For Bb, go to Opt, Preferences, Notation. Right in the middle is the Transpose Options pull-down.

hmmm...ok, now i need to start from scratch i guess; the manual assumes you've just installed bb so it's not obvious how to set up sound; i'll try:

opt > pref > mini driver > driver wizard > use internal sound card

but no sound yet.

I can't tell if your problem has been solved. If not, this would have been my reply -

When you click "print" from the Preview, you may think that would invoke printing. But nooooooo - it kicks you back to the Print Options dialog (just what happened to you), then click "OK Print" and away you go.

Hope this helps.

ok, got the sound back, but still trying to print.

in notation window, i click file > print song, which brings up a print options window over double-staff w/ key sig & chord symbols.

preview graphics shows only chord symbols, but that’s ok, it's what i want to hand out to my jazz band.

when I click ‘print…’ I get back to the print options window (as you observed) but when I click OK-Print I get bar lines but no chords; almost as tho the chords are printed in white...

(this forum needs posters to be able to attach files.)

I don't know what is causing your printing problem. I suggest you contact PG Music Support.

If you have a place to upload photos, like a website or Photobucket etc., you can put a link to them in a post here. There is also an Image tag to have them appear directly. If I recall correctly, there is a fairly recent tutorial on how to do this in the Tips and Tricks forum.

EDIT: here is the great post by Noel

Don't know if this will help but I'm pretty inexperienced with notation?printing stuff and have been driven nuts a few times.

It seems to me that you have to get a LOT of things right...and navigate to several menues re: printing.

Try the following.

1. From Lead sheet window
Opt....then upper left and be sure "chords" is checked.

Upper center
Notation Options then
2. Lower left....select Jazz Fonts and check jazz symbols

Click OK and OK to get back to Lead sheet window then

3. Upper left....Print then Print Options

Upper Left check chords and staff lines boxes.

then OK-Preview Graphics to see if it's what you want.

then Print...which takes you back to where you just left then

OK-Print.

NOTE: This may be VASTLY more convoluted then how the pros do it but I had some of your same issues and I guess my point is that you may get what you need by making sure that ALL the issues on ALL the print-related menues are correct.

Another final note...again from a notation dunce...I found the need to inspect EVERY SINGLE aspect of EACH menu in the Notation and Print menu chain to see what might be relevant to what I am trying to do. Just had to force myself to LOOK AT and assess every aspect of the menues.

Good luck.

Jim

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
