If I understand this correctly, and I may not, RB supports hardware-based direct input monitoring with ASIO drivers if the checkbox in the Audio section tab. i.e. "Enable Input Monitoring" is highlited. Does BIAB support hardware-based direct input monitoring?

I know that BiaB supports Direct Monitoring with the good old M-Audio "Delta" series cards, which feature a Direct Monitoring in Hardware toggle in their Control Panels.
I have also enjoyed rather extreme low latency (as low as 2mS) using laptop with built in coundcard and ASIO4ALL sound driver converter. In this case, there is no setting in the Control Panel per se, but the ASIO4ALL Control panel that allows one to set the latency figure manually, with varying results as to how low you can go, depending upon quite a few variables as to system and hardware specs.
There may be other sound devices from other mfr's that do or do not support that, don't know for certain because there are just so many different sound devices available today and it is not clear which exact one you are trying to use.

Thanks Mac, using my MOTU 828MK3 interface. It looks like RB supports direct hardware monitoring, but I can find no reference in the manuals or here on the forum regarding BIAB and whether it supports direct input monitoring.

Direct input monitoring and direct hardware monitoring are two different things.The direct input monitoring that you mention has to do with the ability to listen to the signal after it passes through the application . In this case RB. This requires low latency drivers like ASIO. It allows for the ability to listen to effects that may have been put into the application channel.BIAB does not support this.
Direct hardware monitoring is another animal and is a function of the sound card.This is so you DON'T have to monitor through the application with WDM drivers with high latency.It lets you play back and record at the same time with next to no latency issues.Of course this works with BIAB as it has nothing to do with the application. It's a function of the sound card.

Thanks John, do appreciate that clarification. I guess I am confused by the terms and thought that they were one in the same. My confusion seems comes from the 828MK3 manual where it mentions that: "If your ASIO-compatible host software supports ASIO's direct monitoring feature, consult your software documentation to learn how to enable this feature." From what you are saying then, RB supports this, but BIAB does not...right?

As I tried to convey earlier in this thread, but apparently did not do a good enough job of explaining, Band in a Box can indeed support the Direct Monitoring capabilities of the M-Audio Delta series cards, as I have done that in the past. There is no need to have a command or otherwise inside Band in a Box to do this, though, simply because the feature is not a function of Band in a Box per se, but a function of the sound device's drivers and software.
If your 828 has true Direct Monitoring available, it may be set up in a more automatic function situation than the Delta cards I've used, so my advice is to try it out and see what you get with the 828.
A good way to do that would be to try using the Amplitube plugin as an amp/effects plugin in realtime with BiaB and a guitar or electronic keyboard.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
