I want to get just a chord chart that looks like the screen (measure number, part markers, etc). Even though I've used BIAB for years, I don't print much. Maybe I've forgotten what to do. Using BIAB 2009, Build 279.

I have a song with an intro section followed by a main section of bars that is repeated several times (using BIAB "repeat"), followed by an outro section (formatted as a BIAB "tag"). I have the print options set for "Template: Chords Only".

Problems:

a) I can't get the whole 3 sections to print at once, without the repeated section being expanded. This gives me more pages than I need.

b) Sometimes I only get 3 bars per line vs. 4.

c) Bar numbers don't show on the printout with "Show bar numbers every part marker" in the print options.

d) Part markers don't show.

Any help would be appreciated. Again, what I'd really like is a printout that just looks like the screen chord chart.

Thanks,

In Lead Sheet window, click Fake Sheet mode. Also in Print Options, select Whole Song for print range. This will include your tag.

In Lead Sheet window options, enter your desired bars/line in 'Fakesheet bars/line. You can enter stuff like, 4,4,6,4 if needed.

Same problem here, bar number for other options work. I'll examine this further or someone else will chime in.

The part markers show as a double line || in the printout. You may have to use Section Text.

Hope some of this helps

On Print Options, hit the More... button. There is a checkbox for 'Include a/b part markers'. I think this is what you want.

Rachael,

Thanks a bunch for your help!

I'm much closer to what I want now. However, there appear to be multiple bugs in printing. One I found is that on the first measure of the tag, the chord/section text don't print. Also I got the part markers to print once, but not after that.

Seems like it should be pretty easy just to print the chord chart as seen on the screen, rather than go through option after option. Oh well, I've made progress.

Thanks again,

I've seen the chords in a tag placed way up on the printout sometimes. Only happens sometimes (of course). You may want to send your buglist to support so it'll be addressed.

Ralph;
Where are you at? I have not heard of Placentia? I am on the east side of the Sierras, near Lake Tahoe. We should pick a good Desolation Wilderness spot this summer, bring the lap tops, and cut a song. I am portable, two hour battery reserve. Sometimes those lakes up there are an inspiration.

3rds,
Placentia is in Southern Calif, Orange County, near Anaheim. However, I no longer live there. Need to change my profile. I spend 6 months on the Central Coast of CA and then travel in my RV the other 6. The last 2 years I've returned from my annual trip to MT via the Lake Tahoe area. I'll keep your interesting suggestion in mind.

I've never gotten the bar numbering thing to work for years and years. I think my gg grandfather had the same problem with version -11bc.

Hi Ralph,

Just in case you are not doing this make sure that you save the song again after you have made all your repeats etc to the notation

I have always had the bar numbers working as they should and toggling between Fake Sheet and Lead Sheet modes may help to revive it - but I have found that the Lead Sheet option to work best

Hi,

In the Print Options dialog, the "Show bar # s.." drop-down menu has an "every bar" option in version 2009, but not in 2008 and earlier.

Sorry if this is a hijacking, but I'm having a notation/print problem too. I'm trying to force a section to begin on a new line. I've added a part marker to the bar, and selected the notation option for New Line each Part Marker, but still don't get the new line. Is there another way to force a new line? My Version is 2009 (282)

The feature 'New Line at each part marker' seems to work only if Fake Sheet Mode is disabled.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
