Hello All,

I've tried to find a style, midi or RTs, for an even 8 song, with a bass guitar that plays mostly just the root-triad- fifth notes throughout, e.g. C E G E , G B D B etc.

I thought that a boogie style would have something similar, but no luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Percy

Sounds like it would be easy to make your own midi bass part in the stylemaker.

There are lots of bass parts that are root and 5th only (half notes)
e.g. 1843 Country Boogie Bass

Then there are 1-3-5 bass parts, like
1547 Bass, Country Swing.

If you are looking for something different, please let us know.

Percy,

Here's another alternative to the above. If you have a recent version of BIAB, one that supports freezing tracks, it would be very easy to ...

  • load in a midi style with a simple bass
  • generate the song
  • then use notation editor to modify the existing bass to what you want
  • freeze the track so that it won't change whenever you regenerate the tracks.

Hope this gives you some ideas,
Noel

Hi Percy, Can you use the chord sheet, then change the bass root note to suit, by using "slash".......eg C/EC/G etc?. I use this method a lot, to create 'runs' where I want them.

Another tip if you use a RealTrack bass and have the most recent version of BIAB and all the updates: when manually choosing a RealTrack, you can select the Simple option (down near the bottom of the menu). I believe most of the bass tracks now support this (I'm not at a computer now to check). The Simpler option, as it sounds, plays a "less busy" part.

Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions. I had forgotten about these work-arounds. Turns out that Peter’s suggested Style # 1547 is what I needed for the desired bass line, with some editing. Thank you, Peter.

When I initially assigned the RT bass track, my first ‘filter by’ was too narrow and subsequently, became too broad, resulting in too many results.

To bring up Peter’s recommended Style #1547, if I had entered ‘ country swing bass’ in the ‘filter by’ slot, only 4 options would have been displayed.

Hope this makes sense.

...and there are some Jazz RTs that play on the half and/or quarter only. See RT set 202 in your RT picker.

Rachael,

I don't have Set 202 in my Stylepicker. Could that be a typo?

Hi percy,

Set 202 is the very latest set of Realtracks. What version of BIAB do you have?

Regards,
Noel

Hi again, Percy.

What version of 2013 did you buy? For example: EverythingPak, upgrade with PlusPak, UltraplusPak, etc. The reason I ask is because the type of upgrade will determine which Realtracks came with the software.

Kind regards,
Noel

I purchased the EverythingPak in December which includes RT Sets 1-187, which I have.

I can't find any info on any additional RT sets
Beats me.

Depending upon when you purchased, it might be that some Realtracks were released a bit later.

Check the Updates Page under Realtracks/
Realdrums, you can view what you have and haven't under the Help file menu and compare both version numbers and any missing items.

Download and install if you don't have. Also check to see that your version number in parentheses is the latest Program Update number and if not, download and install the latest issued one.

Hi percy,

Here's a link that discusses sets 201/202 that might help shed some extra light on things.

Percy,

In the Stylepicker towards the bottom of the Category (left) window, there is a Jazz Trios, Half-Quarter Bass section. Also, in the RealTrack picker, there should be some Half, Quarter options. If you sort by the # column, they will be 2125 - 2130.

If you don't have these, you may need to install the 365b upgrade.

Rachael and Noel,

I read the mid-December thread about these elusive sets. Larry Kehl called them the 'mystery set of basses'.
Gotta love it!

After checking the 'Show RTs that are NA', they do display.
Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction. I'm calling Tech Support tomorrow.

Update- I think I found them on the removable drive.

OK. now I'm lost. I was reading though this and decided to check my own system. Sure enough there were some realstyle sets missing. So I looked for upgrade 365b on the website...could only find a reference in it on the 366 update. So I downloaded the big file of that and installed it.
Now 202 set is there, for example, but set 200 is showing as NA.

Any help here would be good....thanks in advance.

Den,

As far as I can recall, set 200 was only ever released as a special bonus add-on. It has never been part of the collection of standard sets. PG Music do this from time to time.

I might be wrong regarding this and, if so, I'm sure someone will correct me. (In the meantime, why not shoot an email to PG Music and ask.)

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
