Hi, fellow BIAB fans. I've created a collections of custom realdrums for my own use in the last months and, following the advice of other users (I've created some realdrums for several users in the past), I'm thinking about the possibility of creating a new collection of "custom" realdrums to selling some of them (at very low prices, just to help paying the costs of a web page and maybe get some extra motivation to continue working smile ), while offering some of them absolutely for free every month.

I'f there's enough interest, I will continue working on recording and arranging the files, preparing a Web page and create a proper installation procedure, but in the meanwhile, you can take a look on an example, in this case, a funky rhythm inspired on some jazz-funk classics of the seventies that offers six variations at two different tempos (90 and 115 BPM).

You can download the free Real Drum, with a song example, from THIS LINK.

In order to use it within BIAB, you just need to copy the "CFunkyHerbie^" folder inside the compressed file into the "Drums" folder (usually C:\BB\Drums), and, after starting BIAB, open the RealDrums window picker and click on "Rebuild" button.

Any input about the idea is very much appreciated!

Sound great here...
The only thing I noticed was The Genre and Artists fields are blank.
Thanks

Thanks Cerio. I like this style. I can't wait to try some bass lines to go with it.

Please do. I would definately be interested in purchasing some sets if they cover some styles I feel are missing from the BiaB sets.

I think we need some punk and the disco and grunge styles need to be expanded. There are lots of rock styles but there is a need for some with a march feel. Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane used drums with a march feel to great effect.

Have you tried my RealDrums editor to help with creating the text file? It's available here. I would be happy to work with you on making it mre useful if needed.

Yes, if there's enough interest on the project, I will create a proper installation procedure to fix that kind of things.

Yes, that's exactly the idea. It just doesn't make sense trying to replicate the many (and excellent) already existing PG Music's Realdrums. I've been working on certain styles that I personally feel that are still not well covered by them (70's funk, Motown, 80's pop, 60's rock...), trying to fill some stylistic gaps, or just offering more options to potential users. In this sense, I'm completely open to suggestions, like the ones pwarren has kindly given. If you would like to see a particular rhythm of song in Real Drum format, please just let me know (the more specific, the better)

Finally, I'd like to say that, although I've originally created the files for my own use and I could share all of them for free, I think that selling some of them (at low prices, I'm thinking about 1 dollar per Rd) will just help to maintaining the motivation on creating new ones (recording, arranging and preparing the files takes a lot of time). However, if I feel that the community is not interested at all on paying that money for "custom Realdrums", I'll definitively understand.

Any comments really appreciated.

I'd like to add the Disco and Grunge styles are under represented as well. They could certainly use expansion and I'd sure look to purchasing these styles as well as the ones you mentioned above.

Great job Cerio! Yes, keep them coming. Your plan to sell them, and give a few away sounds like a good one to me.

Remember to press the REBUILD button in the RealDrums picker, so that the new RealDrums will show.

>>> The only thing I noticed was The Genre and Artists fields are blank.

BTW, currently the only way to get the genre and other fields to display, would be to add a text like this to the text file c:\bb\DrumStylesInfo2.txt (then rerun Band-in-a-Box)

CFunkyHerbie^=4,Ev,16,Jazz,,60,140,Cerio,150

======

Here's a better description of how that works, using Samba^ as an example...

Samba^=4,Ev,16,Latin,,190,220,Craig Scott,05

=============================================================
The fields are comma delimited, and represent these fields

Samba^ StyleName
4 TimeSig (either 4 or 3 only)
Ev Even/Swing Feel (Ev or Sw only)
16 16ths or 8ths (either 16 or 8)
Latin Genre
<blank> Genre2 (optional)
190 Tempo Lowest Range
220 Tempo highest range
Craig Scott Artist
5 RealDrums Set #

Hi Tommyc. It worked fine here.

You might check that you didn't enter the text in the wrong file. There's a file named DrumInfo.txt and DrumInfo2.txt. It's the second one you want.

Also if you are running from the USB drive make sure that's the folder with the DrumInfo2 file. There's the possibility that the file might be in 2 places depending on your previous install options.

Now there's a combo, Disco/Grunge. KC and the Sunshine Band meets...??

Could that be the new Fusion?

Thanks again everyone for your comments (specially to Peter, whose words are greatly appreciated). I'm working now in putting everything together, and the result should be ready within a few weeks.

hahaha

KC and the Sunshine Band meets... Nirvana!

I know I'd enjoy playing bass to the result of that fusion.

Hi everyone!

You can download now a final version of the Realdrum, with a proper installation file from HERE.

The installer should copy all the necessary files (including the demos and a couple of goodies), and automatically add the information about the RD on your RealDrum picker window.

Please, if you download and install the file, report any problem you may encounter.

Thanks!

Might have better luck if you post a zip file of the executable.
Many people may have exe files blocked.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
