I often use the metronome as a clicktrack when practicing with BIAB. Since a lot of what I play is swing jazz, I'd like to have the beats on 2 and 4, not loud 1 and soft 2-3-4. In the Count-in and Metronome Options, I've set the Audible Lead-In to 1234-2-4 and Metronome Options/Visible Metronome to Whole Song, Top, -2-4, with audible metronome set to Record and Play. This doesn't produce clicks on 2 and 4, at least not on my set up.

What have I failed to grasp? Is there anyway to get BIAB's metronome to click on 2 and 4?

As always, thank you!

I've asked for it years ago, gave up.

Take advantage of the Audio Loop thingy, though, you can put Audio file of the Met on the backbeat using Audio Editor like Audacity, or even RB for that matter, trim it and save it then invoke it as an Audio Loop in BB.

Metronome Pro is another one that I wish they could implement true backbeat on, or at the least, do away with the annoying emphasized beat one...

Practicing with the met hittin' on 2 and 4 should be something that good computer music programs provide IMO, Lord knows I've requested it from just about every major developer over the years, to date the silence is deafening. Maybe they don't understand it.

Practicing with the metronome on 2 and 4 is one of the main points my teacher emphasizes every time I go for a learning session. I find it a very challenging task indeed although I find it quite easy to play with a jazz realtrack with the sock cymbal on 2 and 4. Pick up notes to phases seem to be the hardest for me when using the metronome on 2 and 4.

Thanks Mac. I should have known that it had been asked for earlier. FWIW, I'll put in another 'wishlist' request for such. Maybe others will '+1' the suggestion.

Best regards,

Bob

That's why it is so important, G, it forces us to count for ourselves, ALL THE TIME.

Keep working with it, start slow as you need to go, speed comes with the contempt of familiarity.

After awhile, those pickup notes won't be a problem at all if you do that.

And your PHRASING abilities will soar.

Although I generally use PGMusic's Metronome Pro, I found this one awhile back. It allows you to set which beat or beats get emphasized.

Not sure if that's what you're after but might be worth a look.

Good luck!

I've missed a 2 - 4 metronome too, so finally I've just created a simple Realdrum that works just like that, a Jazz / Swing metronome.

You can download it (of course for free) from my web site (see below), section "Free downloads"

Hope you find it useful.

Just grabbed it. Many thanks!

Who is it again who is doing that "You Da Man" award of the day?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
