Hi Everyone. I'm one of ROG's students and this is my first song on Soundcloud. It's all recorded on Power Tracks and the guitars and vocals are me, with Courtney helping out with the ooohs. Johnny Was A JokerJohnny was a joker, he just never went to school He did what he pleased and he was nobody's fool He never settled down, he lived his life on the run He never slowed down 'cos he was having too much fun He never went to work, he lived his life as a thief He stole a guitar and he could play it with his teeth Every Friday night he was playing in a band The p'lice were on his case, but he gets it while he can One Friday night he was playing with his band The cops came running in and put some cuffs upon his hands Johnny couldn't play, no matter how he tried so He turned them right around and then he used them as a slide. Hope it's not too heavy for this forum. All comments welcome. James.

Hey James,
I really liked that! A pretty slick piece of songwriting and performing. Kudos to Courtney, too. Your voices blended well together. Congrats on getting that first song up!
I'm looking forward to more. Noel

James,
VERY well done. Nice guitar sound. The lead was perfect - not "overdone". Everything about it, in the pocket. Keep it up!

James,
I can't compare it to anything current, but from my generation's perspective it reminded me of a cross between ZZtop and T Rex. I liked it a lot, specifically the following things:
1) the vocal swell before the guitar solo 2) the fact that you pretty much did it all (where did the drums come from?) 3) speaking of drums, that tribal beat is mesmerizing! 4) all the harmonies 5) the guitar solo worked well
I look forward to hearing more from you and any of Rog's other students!

James,
Your recording, mix, are excellent. I really enjoyed your vocal delivery, along with Courtneys backup. The vocal's are unique and fit your music very well.
Great song.
Thanks for sharing your hard work with us!

What James didn't say was that he had his sixteenth birthday last month and so not only is he writing some great songs, he's bringing down the average age of the forum by quite a bit!
I love this track - it's got real drive and energy. I agree with Pat that there's definitely a bit of ZZ top in there and maybe a bit of Stones influence in the intro.
Looking forward to see what James does next.
ROG.

Rog, I think there should be a new genre for the music that comes from the students of your school. How about this for a name....

Don't hear much straight ahead rock around here. Really enjoyed it and can't add to what's already been said. Carry on!

"Hope it's not too heavy for this forum." In my opinion it is not heavy enough good song, I too started writing at 16 and have always wished that I had had the facilities to record my songs then, but in 1965.......LOL Well done Alyn

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
