Here's a song I posted a couple of years ago.

The original is pretty long at 5:30 so I decided to see if I could trim out the 1:30 guitar solo to make it a more reasonable length. crazy It took me awhile but I think I was able to get the trim to seem relatively smooth, eek I also made a few adjustments to the mix.

The only RT's are drums & bass, with me on all the guitar parts.

The lyrics are a bit suggestive, blush but really meant as a giggle... So don't take 'em too serious! grin

All comments welcome. Especially regarding the success of my trim job.

Greg

Greg,

Nice production. I've been doing some rock-style productions lately and I think they are quite difficult to get right. If you had not mentioned that you were "splicing" this somehow, it would never occur to me - it's seamless.

Seems like the perfect length for the song. Well done.

Hi Greg,

I remember the original for this. My gosh!!!! The backing is brilliant now and the mix is incredibly creative!

For what it's worth, you've impressed me!

All the best,
Noel

A great production Greg. Since I have been doing the music production course I am really listening to the mix and what instrument is telling what story at any point. Your mix illustrates this well.

I bet you're a fan of ZZTop, aintcha? (me too)

Sounds good to me! I like the voice doubling as a special touch...
the guitar is perfect for the song, and the fact that you played all the parts gave you the liberty to create a cohesive theme throughout the song (and you did!)

The guitar harmonies at the end have a synthy sound... was that done with some kind of harmonizing pedal? (if so, which one?) Or by recording both parts separately? (usually when both parts are played separately they aren't close enough to get that pad effect)

Well I'm too late for a couple of comments as they been used but......

Seamless is for sure the description of the splicing.

ZZ Top is a fav of mine and, yep, heard some here and similarities to their early 80's production.

Very cool!!

Thanks everybody for the comments. That makes me feel good about the splice.

Pat- I recorded all those harmony parts at the end separtely... I think there's three parts that I kept moving up. I also like how the harmony part on the signature lick sounds that last time before the very end. grin

Anyway, thank you all again!

Greg,

I also remember when you originally posted this. Really nice repost. As has been stated, very nice guitar work/sound. I grew up in Houston in the 60's/70's, so ZZ Top is high on my list (and even Moving Sidewalks before them)! And I can also hear a little of their influence here.

Thanks for reposting this one!

Steve

Greg,

This is such a cheeky fun rocking song. I like this shorter version and the splice was seamless.

Personally I prefer a heavier bass sound on a raucous rocker but it's fine just as it is.

Steve & Robert - Thanks for taking the time to re-listen.

Josie - I actually did a bass boost... Probably could have done a little more. cry

Thanks again everyone,

Late to the party but I’m really glad I came.

I agree with everything that has been said thus far. This also reminds me of ZZ Top.

Your mix sounds very professional.

I am really impressed with your guitar skills. They are top notch for this genre.

I hope you do more like this!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
