Taking the advice of the many knowledgeable folks here on the forum, I have remixed my song Rollin' On

I have pulled back the vocals, boosted the bass and drums, and have attempted to blend some of the business without loosing the character of the song.

Here are the results: Rollin' On

All comments ans suggestions welcome.

Hi Robb
Can't remember what the original sounded like but this one sounds like some good rock 'n roll

Robb,

This mix sounds better than the last one. I would like to hear it in a higher quality format. May be my internet connection, but there are a lot of artifacts coming through on my end, and it makes it hard to really hear it the way you undoubtedly do.

Thanks for sharing it.

@jo131: Thanks for the listen. I "clicked through" to your "I Will Always be There" video and enjoyed it.

Steve,

There are defiantly some "artifacts" in the vocals. These are my 6 children, 3 poodles, and an annoyingly loud parrot. My studio desk is part of our library/homeschooling room. It is rarely quiet enough to get a proper recording. Mind you I am not complaining (well I guess I was complaining about the parrot). Father and husband is my primary vocation. Music is a hobby.

Just in case the kids are not the artifacts you were hearing, I rendered a 44.1 .wav file and generated a .flac file with that. I could send you the Sonar .BUN file if you would like.

Rollin' On .wav file (~60MB)
Rollin' On .flac file (~20MB)

Any advice is appreciated. Your time and effort are a kindness.

Robb,

I didn't hear anything other than the reverb tails or slight echo on the vocal which were fine. Sounds good here on my headphones.

BTW, Your house sounds like a ton of fun. I still miss my loud parrot - what a character - he passed away in 2008 - how I loved that bird. His name was "Sundance". smile

@Pat: Thank you for both the listen and the affirmation.

@Sundance: Sorry to hear about the feathered Sundance. I know how difficult it is to lose beloved pet.

Robb,

This is the best mix yet. I found the snare a bit too up-front. It's covering up other stuff. The resonator guitar and mandolin get a little lost behind it. I also think that a tighter snare would help. But if you stick with the "loose snare" sound, it should be backed off some IMO.

Hope that helps.

Robb,

I was able to give another listen, and I didn't hear the artifacts I was hearing yesterday, so it must have been a "bad" internet speed. I have run into that on occasion with streaming, but usually it is with sites like Soundcloud, Soundclick, or ReverbNation when there sites have busier traffic, you can hear more problems.

This mix does sound much better, and I do agree with Floyd about the snare. It's just a little harsh and distracts from the rest of the mix.

BTW, I also agree with your priorities. Family has to be first. Keep up the good work!

Family first and throw in the noise gate smile I like the remix but I do agree with others on the snare. Take it with a grain of salt as I'm still learning how to mix drums. Thanks for the update.

Through my speakers the drum track is still covering up the rest of the instrumentation, but big improvement over the 1st post.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
