Win7 ultimate, Intel PC. Every time i start realband 2013 build 4 and when it wants to locate the realtracks and drum folders on an external firewire drive i get a "range check error" message, mentions PG server at the to of the error box. Real band hangs waiting for input but it can't and needs taskmanager to close. all worked before, what's up? -F

If you go to Options-Preferences-Song Generation tab, and then click the button to locate the Realtracks is the setting correct?

IIRC range check is usually shut off in Realband for most processes once a final release is done.
When the error message pops up, which module is causing the issue? (it should say in the error message)
Is it Realband.exe, or BBW2.exe or ??

Nope, the locations box and above error box appears, and realband crashes. At the first occurrence of this problem the crash also happened when the correct locations still were shown, Realband.exe, could only find BBW3.exe in my bb folder - Edited & CORRECTION: BBW2.exe was in the data folder in Realband. - I re-installed Realband, same errors occur, the program runs if you bypass the locating of the Realtracks etc., but of course not complete, the same crash happens when you locate the realtracks etc. - Clicking on BBW2.exe tells me briefly on bootup (wont run as visible program) that the .ST2 cant be found in my realtracks folder on the external drive, but they are there .... thnx - F

Fiddler,

What folders have you installed Realband and BIAB to? Also, when you say "all worked before", do you mean that it was working as Build 4 or it stopped working after you updated to Build 4?

Noel

Hi Noel - all the latest versions, 166 and RB v4, and always running from an external firewire drive. Tried running from my USB PG drive, same story. Tried after removing RB.cfg and Realband.INI. Removed the old Realband folder, did a reinstall, still no go. Got the plan to reinstall after cleaning or editing the registry .. - F

Hi Fiddler,

Could you please answer the below questions, it will give me some added insight.

1. When you did the re-install, did you run the re-install program from PG Music? What option did you use?

2. Does BIAB still work for you?

3. Have you recently changed your computer configuration in any way?

4. What anitvirus software do you run?

Regards,
Noel

Hi Noel

Could you please answer the below questions, it will give me some added insight.

1. When you did the re-install, did you run the re-install program from PG Music? What option did you use?

Yep, what dod you mean by option?
ASIO yes, Midi yes

2. Does BIAB still work for you?
Yep and quite solid too.

3. Have you recently changed your computer configuration in any way?
I constantly run other programs and re- or install stuff like a Cubase 7.06 update, reinstalled video K-lite codec pack etc

4. What anitvirus software do you run?
Comodo incl firewall ... S&D spybot, Spywareblaster

The thing is Realband 2013 v4 (and BIAB 2013 266 still does no prob) worked before. - Besides the range check error marked "PG server" at the top, or plain error message if booted from the PG USB drive, there is an occasional FP32.exe "old version" popup for about 2 seconds on indicating the realtrack locations ... Realband hangs after that.

I think it has to to with windows maybe, v 7 64bit Ultimate.

i can email you a screendump ??

thnkx -F

Just removed the old installation folder and took an older one from my backup drive probably without the BBW server update, and it works as before .. loading realtracks etc - But then i opened the realtracks and drums location box, clicked on select and the same crash happens with a PG server box mentioning "range check error" -F

Fiddler,

I don't have any experience with PG Server. I guess that this means that my ability to solve your problem is limited.

What I meant by "What option did you use" is that when you run the PG Installer program, there are 4 options. One of those is to run the program from an external drive. If you didn't select such an option, it sounds like you might not have re-installed the program.

Regards,
Noel

With BiaB and RB both closed, Open Task Manager and 'End Process' on FP32.exe if it is running.

Sounds like that process may not have closed properly during a previous shutdown ..
Let us know if it was indeed running.

Fiddler,

Have you tried ending Realband.exe rather than FB32.exe (or both files even) with Task Manager?

Noel

Hi fiddler,

I'm not sure that you've answered my question. Apologies if I didn't ask it clearly.

When you use Task Manager, what is the name of the file that you shut down to close Realband?

From what you've answered to rharv and me so far, it seems that you (a) shut down FP32.exe to close the program and (b) you shut down FP32.exe as well as Realband.exe to close the program.

Kind regards,
Noel

P.S. I have no idea what FP32.exe does.

Hi Noel

b, both thus -- just completely reinstalled BIAB and Realband, both to a new folder and renamed the realtracks and drums folder location, as it was there before and worked on a separate firewire drive .... and the problem is still there, BIAB OK, Realband crashes locating the realtracks etc folders - i think it has to do with windows somehow ... -F

fiddler,

Sorry to be a nuisance, but when you say "reinstalled", could you please step me through what you did, one step at a time, so that I can have a clear picture in my mind of what was done.

Kind regards,
Noel

deleted all old stuff, run a registry cleaner, created newly named installation folders, installed BIAB and Realband from original PG downloads, updated them to the latest versions ...

Does this mean that you don't accept the default folder name for the program?

Also, could you be attempting to install to the Program Files folder? Not recommended.

Default would be c:/RealBand

This might be due to the program not being able to find files in the expected location...

--Mac

Which would explain FP32 hanging when it attempts to find the files in the correct (relative) folder.

Anytime I've had FP32 or BBW2 problems, I simply close the program, check Task Manager to make sure neither is still running, reboot the machine and get back to work.
Let the install put things where they need to be. Pay attention during the install procedure so you know where things should be located.

MAC: nope, my partition C is on a SSD drive with other time consuming stuff to boot, and making an image backup from the boot drive turns out so much smaller. Also besides that Realband and BIAB always worked flawlessly before either located on a secondary internal, USB or firewire drive

RHARV: thats what i do and did, and if windows has developed some error and if PF32 has to do with windows drivers or services i might be able to check them individually

I think i posted this some time ago with an older Realband file error question by someone:
Quote:
Just found out with Win7 64bit and Realband 2013 v2: if you put the realtracks and drum files on an other place, as i did with a separate 1TB external firewire drive, you should check-activate button "Open And Save As dialogs remember folders independently" before you try to relocate those files as asked when booting RB. Go to options - preferences - 3-file first to do this, otherwise realband hangs definitely until you use windows task manager for a seemingly only way out. - F

Thanks -F

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
