This is a story about 2 weeks in my little demo studio/house a few years ago, I explain the song at the end of this post.It was chaos as they took over the place but I met,and played with, some amazing people and remet some at the wake/jam after the funeral of Gary Pickford Hopkins and recently at 2 more. SO I thought I'd post it as my tribute to Gary, Alb and Stroudie.

HEY YOU
well Tank was waiting for me he was sitting so cool at the bus stop
and Dai was there but he said he and his girl would rather be in bed
we started rocking and things soon started moving in the hallway
and there she was holding some cakes in the doorway

no need to turn the history pages
the kings of rock, the rock of all ages
"hey you" say what you're gonna do
i said "hey you" you gotta stop you cant play all day and all the night too

Ian was there leaning on the chair doing the mixing and fixing
said i just been with Zappa to the chick and the rapper they just smiled so sweet
a 12 string fender with strings a resonating to ascreaming and the pleading from the steel guitar wailing
a violin played in the background so sweet
it was time for sleep
SOLO

an angel brought us the food of love

"hey you" say what you're gonna do
"hey you" say what you're gonna play
"hey you" what you're gonna do right
i said "hey you" you gotta stop you cant play all day and all the night too
SHUT UP

***** Song Summary *************

Title: hey you
melody track has 44 notes,
Style is POP60_SW.STY (Pop 60's Swing 8ths - 60's Brit)
Style MIDI Instruments are : Emu Proteus piano, Real guitar', Plex strings, Fl Studio 10 Cubase sx 1
Soloist is saved with the song : Fats Waller (108)
Style is also DADGAD1.STY (DADGAD - alternate guitar tuning)
Style MIDI Instruments are : Acoustic String Bass (33), Nylon String Guitar (25), Acoustic Guitar (26),
RealTracks in song: ~~372:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Hank Sw 120
MIDI Drums :1 Standard Drum Kit (1)

I wrote the words and song over the following year and did a rough BIAB version which sat lonely and forgotten until a month or so ago! I used a VS1680 and Cubase SX1 with many guest musos as mentioned above. We recorded 10 songs somehow!
Tank was a session drummer who got lost and I had to lead him to the house from the the bar across the road from the local bus station' it took 15 mins to walk there but 4 hours to get home after a beer or 12!, We rang home for a sober driver for his car full of his drums!
Dai was Steve Williams drummer of Budgie whose wife Angels (real name) was a Californian in the mould of Mama Cass, hell of a voice and a mean cook! Angels also cooked some cakes *licks lips*. The name Dai says we were ALL Welsh and in Wales.
Ian, forgotten surname' worked with Zappa in the 70's and entertained us with stories about that great man. He was the Boss recordist and I was the gopher.
The chick was Billy Thompson's girlfriend and the rapper didn't exist it just rhymed.
The 12 string Fender was a purple pearlesque stratocaster owned by Rob that I had my eyes on, and so his on me!. He was the leader of this concept album.
Can't remember the name of the Pedal steel guitarist but boy could he make you laugh and cry with his playing. I fell in love with pedal steel guitar thanks to him
Violin was Billy Thompson who played violin with John Hinesman and Barbara Thompson and does Gypsy Jazz now.

Jams occurred every night and into the morning and would only stop when the ones trying to sleep, or my neighbours!, got angry. mad hence the shut up.

We took breaks and often stories were told as we sat around and one day one of my cats strolled in and went to sleep on the cushion in the Steve's open kick drum. I noticed and didn't think of telling him as we listened to the story. He had a chain linked double bass drum pedal and to emphasise a point his feet went berserk with a bass drum roll. Cartoons ARE true 'cos the skeleton of the cat left the room first followed seconds later by the skin, swerving and jinking the legs, guitars, beers and leads like a professional. laugh! HAHAHAHA the cat has never fully recovered and never goes in that room to this day! It didn't come back in the house for weeks and is now a total neurotic wreck. Poor lickle pussy but HAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, Alyn, you've done it again.

Every bar a gem and a surprise in every chorus.

I can safely say that I don't know of anything else on here as remotely inventive as the songs you're putting out at the moment. As usual, I've been forced to keep hitting the repeat button and only broke off to write these comments.

The only downside is that each time I listen to one of your tracks, it unsettles me and makes me think I'm getting into a creative rut. Actually that's probably something on the plus side.

Whatever!

Keep it going in 2014.

ROG.

HI Alyn....

This is the first time we've listened to you. So glad we finally got to it!

This is a great tune! That is the era we grew up in...Di listened to Top 40 Rock and I listened to Country. That's kind of oxymoronic as she is from Tennessee, which is famous for Country and I'm from St. Louis, Missouri where Rock and R&B were and are popular).

Every line was special and man, talk about taking us back to when we were young! Wonderfully recorded and mixed. You have a creative and unique style that appeals to both of us. Very nice, indeed! Wishing you a prosperous new year...

Al & Di

Alyn,

Creative and fun. Shut up. Sounds like you had a blast doing it. Shut up. And I enjoyed listening.

Loved the arrangement but I can't go on commenting all day and night. Shut up.

An angel is bringing me food - especially loved that part.

Couldn't resist a little teasing.

Seriously, good stuff.

I'll shut up now. <grin>

Hey Alyn,

Your inventiveness is fast becoming your forum signature!

This is incredibly impressive. Like ROG, I feel that I'm in a creativity desert by comparison to the work that you've been supplying us with.

A GREAT listen!

All the best,
Noel

Don,

Nice to hear from you!!
Well that kewl effect wasn't actually a violin, it was the MTron Mellotron VSTi. I am not at my music computer at the moment so I will look later and see what I actually did!!!
Glad you enjoyed

ROG,

I too listen to songs like this and think I am in a rut at the moment as my latest songs are c**p. I like writing about my experiences and going to the Doctors for a blood test is not a fun subject for a good song, well not yet laugh

Thanks for the praise mate, you are one of the people on here that has showed me something: Your mixing skills with PT and having a big monitor are just 2!!
Thanks for the comments.

love the whatever!

Al,

Nice to meet you, your name caught my eye as one of my stage names years back was Alyn David!!! As my second christian name is David, anyway laugh
I would LOVE to be back in that time when we mixed country and rock and ended up with this!!!
Thanks for the comments, Christmas and local storms meant I haven't been on the Internetz a lot recently but that is my New years resolution.

Take care

Alyn

floyd,

Thank you , that is praise indeed from a master...you!! And mentioning my name in the same sentence as Zappa is brilliant. Ian told some great stories, which I have now forgotten, sadly!!
Yes there are more but...

Have a good New year
and keep producing those beauties you write

Whoa...man, you opened the creativity flood gates on this one. Surprise followed by surprise, redux. Demands multiple listenings. Plus one on what's been said re lyric, vocal and arrangement. Thanks for the context with the background story.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
