It's very rare that I go back and re-mix things which I did a long time ago and in fact I can't ever remember doing it before. I tend to think that sometimes you just end up making something different, not necessarily better. Having said that, this was the first song I posted on the forum and listening to it recently I felt I might just tweak it a bit. (I've acquired some new toys since then.)

So here it is. It's the "everything bigger" mix. As before, it's Josh Kenyon, one of my long time students showing off his vocal talents by doing all the voices. Those of you who didn't hear it first time round, I hope you like it and those who did catch it, maybe you won't mind a second listen.

Small Family Of Strangers
Sometimes when it's late at night
And nothing I do seems to turn out right
Out of tune, nothing rhymes
Out of touch and out of time
Hours spent on the telephone
Still leave me feeling all alone
Nothing moves, nothing stirs
Nothing's wrong but nothing works,
I need my...

Small family of strangers
That keeps me hanging on, (it's that)
Small family of strangers
It's somewhere I belong, (in my)
Small family of strangers
They never let me down, (I've got my)
Small family of strangers
They'll always be around.

ROG.

Yes, I remember it very well Rog. The chorus melody is brilliant and the song builds nicely with a real tension as you anticipate the chorus bursting out. Perfectly made pop song.
cool

Hi ROG,

the old version is gone. So I can't compare.
But this one sounds great anyway.
Congrats to Josh.

Hi Roger
I don't believe I had heard this before. As mentioned above, the chorus on this one is great. Very catchy. The vocals are great, especially in the chorus. Good work!

Hi ROG
I wasnt around for Version 1 so all I can say is that Version 2 is right up to the usual Music Prof standard - i.e Top Dollar.
Great Hook in the Chorus. I found myself singing the second part quite easily during the second listen. The Top part is WAY too high!! lol!
Smooth production too. Totally Pro.
BTW - what happened to Josh? Is he still with you?
cheers
ian
BTW - your website seems to have gone all weird. Instead of setting all the Studio info its just a single page advertising forthcoming vids. IS that right?

Hi ROG,

Firstly, please let Josh know that I think he's an awesome singer! I need some of that talent. Mind you, at my age, it's probably wasted anyway smile

On my Altec Lansing speakers, "Small Family of Strangers" sounded spectacular - especially near the end where Josh threw caution to the wind with his vocals.

Your arranging, mixing and production shines in everything you do.

Regards,
Noel

Hey ROG,

One of my favs too. Sounds great! Love everything about it and especially when Josh cuts loose at the end. Also that little organ part is killer - what a great sounding organ.

Dynamic arrangement, builds into the chorus. Well done all around. Get that '80's easy listening vibe from this one. The lead vocal was great at the end, and the bg vocals have me thinking Styx.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
