Leon, that would be a great tutorial. Redo what you did on a youtube video.

I don't really know a way around the copyright issue. Even if a tune is in the Public Domain, wouldn't that cause the administrators to have to research every tune to determine if it truly was copyright free.

It even get's complicated with public domain songs as artists will copyright their arrangement of a public domain tune. I know this has happened to House of the Rising Sun. Lot's of landmines and snakes in the grass out there.

I can't think of a solution, I would love to see what was done here and what you did as a tutorial video.

Post the song on Youtube, which has their own licensing system.

Point the forum post to the youtube video, or use the Video button at top of Reply screen to embed it right in the forum post.

Leon, read the rules carefully.

"The songs must be originals, no copyrighted or "cover" songs. You must have all of the rights to the songs."

The first part says "original" .... the second part says " all the rights".

If you take a public domain song and record it with your style, the requirements of both lines are met, in my humble opinion, since no copyright infringement exists with public domain songs and no one holds the exclusive rights to that song anymore.

You must be careful however, because some older songs are still covered by copyright. Many "Christmas songs", especially those from church hymnals written in the 1800's or earlier are all PD now..... a quick glance at the date of creation will tell you what you need to know. Go to the Library of Congress web site to figure out the length of copyright afforded the song originally since the length of protection has changed numerous times though the decades.

Another option is to purchase a license for the particular cover tune as some here and in other forums have done. The Harry Fox Agency can fix you right up all nice and proper and totally legal.... for a small fee.

Original and public domain.... good to go....anything else, not so much.

Hope that clarifies it a bit.

I hadn't heard this yet.

Peter, this particular song means a lot to me. My mom used to sing it to me; my late grandmother used to sing it to me. (The "Danny Boy" version, of course.)

This is a simply awesome arrangement. By chance, is there somewhere we can download an .MGU file? If there's a link on this thread, I've missed it.

Awesome.

ETA: Ahhh. Just saw how to duplicate it. Excellent!

Hi Ton,

I agree. Wonderful song, with so many memories.

Glad to hear you how you duplicated it ( by loading in the Artist Perormance File, and changing the style to _Symphony.sty

We'll get a version of that file uploaded.

Have Fun!

How does one get the strings then? A search for _Symphon.sty on my bb directory finds it not? Is it downlaodable or buyable?

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
