I tinkered about with music maker and was a little confused...I know...practice will make you proud...from what I have saw...Band in a Box ...starting with chords is a better approach...ok...I play at rhythm guitar...took a few blues guitar lessons ten years ago...and from 79 to 85 was a bass player in a southern rock/country band...now that I have revealed that I know enough about making music to make me clumsy....there is an objective to my approach... musical theater will be my target venue...my son works in the theater industry...and creating musicals is my final product.

I feel that creating a song ...I have played and know ...using band in a box...is a good exercise to find my footing...say a simple waltz ...Kenny Rogers....Lucille....duplicating this tune...a simple waltz could give me the feel of creation.

any feeling about this approach....and how much spending is required to get my feet wet...

any opinion will be welcomed

Iamatx, welcome to the BIAB forums.

The closest thing to $100 is the Pro pack at $129. But this is very minimal and likely wouldn't give much satisfaction as it lacks a majority of both MIDI and Real Styles, which make BIAB the powerful tool it is.

I recommend you consider the UltraPlus Pack at $469. It's a huge step up, but it has everything you need to immerse yourself in BIAB's unique musical goodness. Whether you want to create new music, arrange covers, or study your instrument, this package rocks! (It's what I have gotten since version 2006.) Upgrades are very reasonable after your initial purchase.

There is no demo, as it would be impossible to include the necessary extras. However, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee, which would give you plenty of time to audition the software and find out whether it's for you. (Hint: It is!)

Again, welcome to the BIAB community. Incidentally, this forum is for showcasing music created with Band-In-A-Box. If you have some, please provide a link so that we can give it a listen. Otherwise, general questions are best answered in the "Off-Topic" forum.

HTH,

Richard

Mike,

Welcome to the forum.... yeah this is the "user showcase" for displaying your creations with BiaB original songs. (no covers)

BiaB or BB for short is without a doubt the premiere software product to use to create music. I've been using it 5 years or so now.... It is a bit pricey considering your limited $100 budget.

I believe, you would be happy with BB & RB (RB=real band..it's companion program). If the price is just not doable, perhaps you can look into a program called :

SONG SMITH

Song Smith is very similar to BB although BB has many more features and functions built in plus all the styles depending on the level you buy. I don't believe that SS can use PG Music's real tracks either although I might be wrong. I think it is primarily similar to the midi side of BB. It does however, use the Garritan Orchestral sounds which are pretty sweet for being synth.

you can download a demo and there are several cool things about SS. First, it is only $30. The demo runs for 6 total hours of usage and if you like it you spend $30 and it's yours.

Second, Song Smith has partnered with PG Music so you can buy individual sets from PG to use in SS as you need them. The style sets from PG are $30 each. Add them as and if you need them.

Listen to some of the music people here have created with BB/RB and I also saw a user showcase on the SS website as well.... so have a listen there as well.

Hope this helps you some.

Add nothing that adds nothing to the music.
You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Went to SongSmith website.
Cant get the "tutorial" demo videos.
Only the "HighSchool" vid seems to work and that tells you nothing.
I would love to know if it can be used on a tablet but cant see any App info anywhere. Anyone know?

Sixchannel, the download link on the Song Smith site says the program runs on Windows 8, 7 or XP (XP requires .NET Framework 3.0). It also states the program will not work with Windows RT or pre XP versions of Windows.

Mike, I got the 2011 ProPak as a gift a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. The ProPak is fully functional and includes both Band-In-A-Box and RealBand programs and many other accessory programs. While the ProPak does not include all the styles and Realtracks available, enough variety is included that you will be able to determine if the program suits you or not.

PG Music has a thirty day, no questions asked, money back policy.

If you look at some of the other topics you'll see the user interface was redesigned for 2014. I believe the new interface is not only easier to use but will also be easier for new users to learn how to use. Along with the new interface PG Music support has been releasing how-to videos on YouTube at a furious pace.

Between PG Music support, the friendly spirit and deep knowledge of fellow forum members and the YouTube videos you'll be receiving the best software support available on the planet.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
