I haven't had to do this in several years, but what is it that you believe has changed?

In 2014 you should find the command under the GM menu at the bottom, "Convert Patch List from Powertracks or Cakewalk".

from the pdf manual Press the [+] button to the right of the Instrument name on the main Band-in-a-Box screen. This will open the Patches on Higher Banks dialog.

There is no + button in the new 2014 GUI.
The GM menu command I referenced above does the exact same thing (It has always been there in previous versions as well but most probably just used the + button, which no longer exists).
With the new GUI, you can also select Higher Bank patches by RightClicking on a yellow MIDI in the Mixer and select the menu popup command for Higher Banks, this to change patches quickly once you have installed your Patchmap.

thanks mac
sorry i didn't see your original post before responding to matt's however i would not have gained the additional info about accessing the higher banks which i do not recall having seen before for 2014
turns out using the new mixer you can also either
leftclick on the patches tab then leftclick on a yellow MIDI instrument description in the Mixer and select the menu popup "select midi patch" command for select Higher Banks option
RightClick on a yellow MIDI instrument description in the Mixer and select the menu popup "select midi patch" command for select Higher Banks option from select Higher Banks option you can use the
[Open INI/INS] button to launch a utility to create a Band-in-a-Box .PAT file by converting an existing patch in PowerTracks Pro Audio format (patch.ini) or Cakewalk (*.ins file).
i'm wondering why having successfully created the wk-7500.pat file it does not show up in the synth\soundcard list of the midi\audio drivers setup dialog box

Can you see the file in the bb folder using Windows Explorer window?
That'd be my first step...

yes i can see and load the file, now renamed wk7500.pat, and use its higher banks sounds i've restored all to factory settings and added the kentron sd2.pat file to the bb folder neither the kentron or wk7500 show in the above listing just curious as to where the info from that list comes from

Its not supposed to show up where you are looking, it doesn't show up there in my setup either. However, RightClicking where I told you to, on the Mixer, selecting Select MIDI Patch -> Select Higher Bank Patch (from .pat file) is where you will find a dropdown to select it the first time. After that, it will just show up.

The list in that pull down is maintained in a txt file called "Bbw2.dkl" in "your drive wherever\BB" (i.e., your BB root directory)
You will not find that specific Casio in that pull down.
Actually you won't find MOST synths in that pull down. It is a little dated in that it has not been updated since Jun 2010. While I don’t work for PG I seem to recall from looking at this BEFORE I think it is a list of most dedicated GM synth's or SAMPLING of mfg's synths that support GM and all it does is: once you pick a synth in that pull down it simply calls up the correct DRUM KIT MAP (.dk file) for that manufacturers drum maps.
You still need to have, get, or make the correct .pat file for you instrument, if is not a simple one-to-one with the GM, GM2, or GS and you want its specific higher patch banks. (which is what Mac is explaining above)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
