I love lyrics. It's fascinating to see how other people translate ideas into words. I thought it would be interesting to see what phrases/verses really stand out to other PG music members. My idea was something short so it is quick to read and digest, but if you feel compelled to post an entire song, go for it. I'll start the ball rolling. I've been listening to a Don Henley CD in my car lately so here's a powerful lyric

There are people in your life who've come and gone, they let you down, you know they hurt your pride
You better put it all behind you baby cause life goes on, you keep carryin' that anger it'll eat you up inside

Post what moves you. Take care. Greg

I was listening to a Stevie Wonder track just yesterday "A Place In The Sun"
It's got some great lyrics, but the one that caught my attention was:

Like a branch on a tree
I keep reachin' to be free

That is just a brilliant line, in my view...

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

[*****] boppa loomob, a lop bop-bop!

EDIT: Unbearable. It censored "w o p"

I'll bet nobody even remembers the origins of it as a no-no word anymore.

Macster, would that be "Tootie Fruity" by James Brown and/or Little Richard.

I'm a bit surprised that the PC Petrol Cops didn't censor "Fruity", a synonym. lol.

Mac,

I bet I do but won't say here other than it was a not to endearing slang for immigrants from Italy. But I can still take you to a restaurant south of New Orleans where they feature a "[*****]" Salad on their MENU. And the kicker being the restaurant is an Italian Restaurant established by a 1st generation Italian Family.

A great place to eat BIG FOOD!

Some of my favorite lyricists are people you have never heard of. There's a guy in Australia named Mike Debenham who releases songs just into the online communities he participates in with incredibly poignant lyrics. There's a song he has written called 'The Clearing' which describes settler/shepherd life in Australia which gives me goosebumps each time it shows up in my mp3 player playlist. Here's an example from 'The Clearing':

"my dreams are a hundred black faces
close my ears to the cry
and i wake in the morn for there's work to be done
the axe and the gun"

Link to the song - you should hear it's beauty: http://barnadine.net/music/0609-Barnadine-Clearing.mp3

There are many folks that participate in February Album Writing Month that are penning very memorable lyrics. Some of my favorite 'Fawmers' lyricists are gerrybhoy, oddbod, jaenadon, resonance.

Another one I love is from a blues CD I'll have to chase down at home - it goes something like this: "Took me 20 years to get discovered overnight".

Edit - I found it as I had done a review on it for the Phantom Tollbooth. Michael Powers is the artist and Successful Son is the song. Why this guy isn't world famous, I'll never know.

Nice to see all the responses. This is another classic Don Henley verse (I love the END OF THE INNOCENCE CD).

Lyin' here in the darkness, I hear the sirens wail
Somebody's goin' to emergency, somebody's goin' to jail
You find somebody to love in this world, you better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door

A lot of impact in about 40 words. He, I believe, is one of the true geniuses of pop songwriting. Keep 'em comin' Take care. Greg

I marvel at this close to "Lola". I often wonder if Ray Davies knew what he had done, or if it was an accident from making the lines fit.

"I know what I am
and I'm glad I'm a man
and so's Lola"

-Ray Davies from "Lola" by the Kinks

In this (brilliant) song, the singer meets a girl named Lola in a club.

Throughout the song there are lyrical hints dropped that Lola is actually a man.

So you're expecting it at the conclusion, but the way the final line plays out, (where the clause "and so's Lola" is in the sentence) makes it real muddy.

Is Lola just glad that the singer is a man? Or is Lola actually a man?

Brilliant!

(One of my favorite rock 'n' roll records. Great tunes too! Worth a listen if you've never heard it!)

I love those lyrics....

My favorite parts:
Well I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
.....
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
