I have been using CAD for too many years to count, this Mic in fact without one issue. Just thought someone might want to take advantage of this great price.

Bob,

Just FYI . . . Wonderful company as well as back when my charity was doing an in school music program for special ed children CAD gave us 2 mics just like the one in the ad free of charge with no questions asked.

At the time they were selling for 90.00 bucks a copy.

Mics.... anyone looking for a really superb condenser mic at great prices.... check out Gauge mics.

Gauge Mics

I had the opportunity back in 2009 to be at a songwriter's convention and this company had a display set up. They had their ECM-87 mic ($149) side by side with the U-87 for $3000, the AKG-414 for $1000 and several other top dollar studio mics that most musicians can not afford to own.

The Gauge's were nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately, I had just dropped $400 on a nice Rode. No regrets on the Rode, but the Gauges sure made me wish I had waited a few more weeks.

Nothing wrong with a dynamic mic. I've got several. But int he studio, the condenser really shines, especially on vocals and acoustic instruments.

I know at that time (2009), gauge only sold via direct orders to the company. I've not seen their mics for sale anywhere else so I assume it's still a direct order system.

Read the back story on the 2 guys who started and run this company.

I've had my CAD M177 LDC for probably 8 or 9 years now, it's a great microphone and great service by CAD. I had purchased their lesser grade brand (global audio I think was the brand), it conked out and their service engineer walked me through a couple of checks on the internals. One of them was basically roughing up the surface where a ground strap wiped against the body of the mic. When one of these failed, he said something like: "It's not worth the shipping and my labor for you to send it to me" and the M-177 was on it's way to me as a replacement.

They have a nice drum mic kit that is priced very competitively as well.

We usually use Beta 87A's on stage, but our busking PA doesn't have phantom power. Our 58's are getting pretty long in the tooth, and this mic is supposed to have great GBF, closer to a 57. And at that price? No brainer.

Sounds like a great company as well.

Neodymium Magnet dynamic mics are very popular.

Costs a bit more money, but not too much more, my personal fav for live voice work is my Audix OM-5. For baritone voice, its much like using the good old SM57 with Shure long boot on it, but with the increased output of the neodymium magent generator.

The deal listed here should be fairly commensurate with same basic specs as the Shure neodym offerings.

And you can get two of 'em for the price of one Audix.

Without having to change any "standard" mic stand adaptors to suit the skinnier Audix as well.

Here's one I like, because I won it for free in a local music store drawing. Electrovoice PL80a: http://www.electrovoice.com/product.php?id=769

I've seen these down in the $50 range on sale (there is a 3-for-1 deal for $150 that used to run pretty regularly), but not recently. Killer microphone. Does great on just about everything particularly in reflective environs - has great off-axis rejection, so living room recordings of acoustic guitars don't sound like a living room recording.

Later,

Digging these CAD's Danny. Hardly any proximity, good GBF. A little dark compared to a 58, but nice and articulate.

Thanks for the tip.

Just had to bump this thread back up. We've been using two of these CAD 189 mics in rehearsals, and they are incredible. We rehearse in a small space, and feedback has always been a problem, since I like to practice with some volume. grin

I'm getting so much GBF with these inexpensive mics that I can't use all the juice I have available. In addition to that, they have virtually NO proximity effect, and handle plosives better that any mic I've ever used. They blow my SM58's away, and are in competition to replace our usual stage SM87A condensers.

Anyone playing live should have a good look at one of these little guys, especially at this price.

And thanks again to Danny for turning us on to them!

Bob,

Since I have been doing the live webcast I have come to appreciate my CAD even more for the reasons you listed above.

I perform in a rather small room, don't like headphones so I pump up some volume through my Bose LII only 2 feet from my mic and do not experience one bit of overload or feedback.

Take Care.

Ive never understood why CAD mics are not more popular. They perform great, are usually cheaper than the big names and are always waaaaaaay better than the chinese stuff. I only regret that I didn't discover CAD before I dropped thousands on AKG and Senheiser years ago.

I'm pretty sure the capsule in my CAD M177 was made in China iirc the manufacturer told me at the time.

Nothing wrong with Chinese mics. We have a couple Studio Projects condensers, and they are great.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
