Can Bandstand be replaced by Kontact (as a VST plugin?) in BIAB? Will Kontakt work?

Most VStis will work, there are a few with timing issue that do not work inside RB, and BiaB. But i would bet Kontact will work, but it might suffer from the difficultlies that bandstand has. I had better sucess with sampletank.

How about the quality of SampleTank? Any remarks, pls.

And yes, I have problems with BandStand as a plug-in, altho it works best as a stand-alone.

I have heard some folks put Sampletank down, but i have owned both the free versions 1 and 2 so far and really liked the sounds, especially the piano, and such.

Hi
i hope you don`t mind me saying that when BIAB was first developed it was built round the creative AWE soundcard and it even had a AWE editor within the software so really BIAB still runs the best with a GM based sound card or a GM based softsynth and now the GM based SD2 hardware module

You can use any of these modern samplers or Romplersor what ever they may be called but the work level increases so much its not worth it i have just been trying for the past week to get Kontact 2 with garrin BB&JB to work and i have had not a lot of luck it will play the backing tracks ok but will not play the melody and the soloist tracks with out problems if you have the patiece and the time you may get it to work ok but i got fed up and packed it in

it is so simple with a GM based sounds that you just load your tune and press play and then the next and so on with Kontact you have to set each tune up every time which to me is a pain and to me the SD2 is better sounding then most if you don`t have the ability to program these new software programs like Kontact to make them sound better then the SD2

Have you tried loading up Kontakt / Kontakt Player in standalone mode and using a virtual midi cable to link them. After that, it's just a question of assigning bass to channel 2, piano to 3 etc and, if memory serves, soloist to 7 and melody to 4 (but I might be mistaken with that as I'm not at my music PC just now. The Virtual Midi route is much more stable than using Kontakt as a VSTi.

Best wishes

I recently bought Cakewalks MC5 entry level product for $39 at best buy. It came with Rolands TTS, and i really like that GM mod as it is a huge upgrade over VSC. It seems to work flawlessly in Rb, and i will try it in BiaB over the weekend. Plus the package also has Cakes new sound center, a lite version of Dimension Pro na Rature bundled with 150 instruments, and Studio Drums a very decent GM drum mod.

These alone make it worth the $39!!

Virtual Midi cable.. now thats something i have heard but never to figure out how the thing is set up.
Thanks for this idea..

Just a point of clarification, when we make a "render to wav" file, does this virtual midi cable setup produce a result as if BIAB was using the Roland VSC Dxi?

What software of VMC can you recommend?

thanks.

Hi Brian

Thanks for your reply,i have got most of the samplers and romplers and all of them more or less work,i always thought that VSampler was one of the best as it had its own virtchal midi cable, and in the last few month i have had many problems, like at the moment i seem to have quite bad distortion on garritan BB&JB and GPO and i had to clear samplers like Sampletank 2 and sonic synths 2 to give me room for Realtracks,so for me SD2 does everything i want
there is something wrong with my system as so many little things are going wrong and even SD2 is not sounding as good as it was,so what it is i have no idea,i`m not against using Kontact and such like but at the moment nothing is working properly, thanks for your reply

Automatic Rendering is done by the chosen DXi synth and to my knowledge will always have to use the sounds within that one DXi synth. Never tried it with Virtual MIDI Cable softwares or the like, but I doubt that can do the job anyway.

Your best bet would be to Record the output of your soundcard to Line Input, or if your card supports it, via recording the Direct Out Monitoring, sometimes called "What U Hear" or "Stereo Mix" or "Stereo Wav" from beginning to end of playback, onto an Audio track. Just as when using hardware MIDI synths.

It would be so much easier to use Real Band or something similar if you wanted to do this with other DXi / VSTis ...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
