Looking for a style(s) with a turnaround intro, as well as turnarounds at the end of each 12 bar verse. My ears have worn out searching thru the available styles. BiaB 2014 Pro, with styles from the internet as well as older BiaB stuff.
Still hoping for info as to whether the VST components of Native Instruments Komplete Elements (Kontakt 5, Reaktor 5, Guitar Rig 5) will work in Realband or BiaB?
If I add them as a plugin, they show up in the list...but don't seem to *work*.
Any help appreciated.

TxMagik, to have a song form like you are suggesting I roll my own. I have one long chorus containing all the measures of the song, including the turnarounds like you suggest. I might be wrong but I don’t think that there is a style that does all you are asking.

If Komplete is 64 bit it will not work. I don’t know about 32 bit as all I have is 64 bit.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks Mario... Since I don't have midi input, or play the keyboard for that matter, it makes it kind difficult to input from scratch, alas. I have tried the one long chorus method, but have had little luck *placing* the turnarounds...:( I have both 32 and 64 bit vst in Komplete elements. They *add* as a plugin and show up in the plugin list...but don't seem to work within either Real Band or BiaB.
And Native instruments tech support said they never heard of BiaB, so they were no help. And so I languish...chuckles.

Are you looking for specific licks to be played over the turnaround? If so, you will unlikely get that in BIAB. Or are you just wanting to hear the typical chordal transition for the final four bars of the blues tune (this is generally what I think of when I think "turnaround")? If the latter, you should be albe to do that with a strong chord progession. Lots of very chord cool changes availalbe to draw out the "turnaround".

Could you be a little more specific when you say you have trouble placing the turnarounds?

Also what do you mean when you say Komplete Elements shows up but won’t work? Do you have an instrument assigned in elements? Is the MIDI out channel matching the elements MIDI input channel?

I’m not that familiar with elements but if it is like Kontakt it will have a keyboard simulated in it. If so does the keyboard play when you click on it?

With a lot of NI’s products you have to run them in stand a lone mode first, otherwise the VSTi will not work. Have you done that?

Turnarounds are a set of Chord Changes.
Styles do not contain nor dictate Chord Changes.
Chord Changes are what you, the User, dictate to BIAB.

As long as you installed the 32-bit version of Komplete Elements, it should work. However, you have to make sure that you load the 32-bit version of each of the DLL's (Kontakt 5 Player, Guitar Rig 5 Player, and Reaktor 5 Player. If you load the 64-bit DLL (they are separate DLL's), it just won't work.

You also have to make sure in each of the players to select the instrument you want to use and then match the proper channel numbers for the track you want to use it with. In BIAB, you can select "Opt, Preferences" and then select the "Channels" tab to see which channel each track uses.

That's what I said... still waiting for clarification.

TxMagic:

Look in the bb folder for the folder named, "BLUEJAMC" and there you will find around 90 or so examples of Blues changes, many of them based on the various 12-bar blues known, Major or minor.

Those chords can be used with your own songs, or different Styles than what they were programmed with originally, or add RealTracks, etc.

Don't forget that once loaded, you can change keys with a single click.

Thanks to all the replies... I got the Komplete Elements to finally work as a VST (had to set it's internal midi channels to *omni* instead of *first free*)...only to discover that there is only a classical nylon string guitar in the samples, no other guitars to be found, so even now that it works, what I wanted it for won't work for me.

As to turnarounds, the ones I play on my guitar are individual notes, usually, and an occasional double stop, not always chords. I was hoping for some *note* based turnarounds...I have yet to checkout the folder BLUEJAMC, maybe I'll get lucky there.
I had tried to copy and paste some midi phrases that sounded sorta right, but I have yet to master that aspect of editing (the timing).

Again, thanks all...appreciate the help

With BB, you can do some pretty amazing things with the chords.

I have a few tunes in progress that have walk ups or downs.... For example where you might go from the verse, and walk up to the start of the chorus. 1 up to the 4.

You can easily place that sort of thing using chords that are quarter notes. In addition, you can tell BB to not play the root of the chord, but instead to play some other note in the walk up/down or just in general.

Since you play the guitar, just take the basic chord pattern from BB and render the tracks...copy them out to Real Band (or simply open the project in Real Band) and simply record your guitar playing the exact notes you want.

you can always collaborate with a guitar player from this forum..... just look around and see who plays their own guitar parts.

Hey, TxMagik - Remember that Komplete Elements is really just their sampler pack to give you an idea of what kinds of sound you can play using the Kontakt player. NI is hoping that you like them so much you will buy additional instrument packs, or the full versions of the products.

They do run sales now and then, so keep an eye on the web site, and if you are registered, you should get email notices as well.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
