I still use biab 2007 and have used BB for years, but I am stumped with this problem. BB on playback of any bb song the chords and melody are correct but now on play back of the song the pitch is a half of tone higher. It does it to audacity vanbasco all my mp3s and wav files. has anyone have this happen and how did you fix the problem , it appears my Toshiba laptop has a mind of its own I have tried all I know without getting into trouble. This may have to go to another forum but if any one can throw some light on to it , Regards Lance Brisbane Australia

Hi Lance,

First thing I'd check is your speaker playback. It sounds like it might be set to 48,000 Hz. BIAB needs 44,100 Hz to operate at the correct pitch.

If you go to "Speaker Properties" (#1) in Windows, check to see if #2 on the image below is set to 48,000 Hz

It's possible to set this to 44,100 Hz using the dropdown arrow. Rather than change the frequency, activate #3 so that BIAB will take control of the soundcard when you start it up and will automatically set it to 44,100 Hz.

Let us know the outcome.

If the above doesn't work, we'll work through other possibilities.

Kind regards,
Noel

Some laptops have a "Karaoke" function addon to the System that changes the Pitch of all Audio the machine plays back.

Check your System Control Panel, Sounds (or it may be labeled as something else, a proprietary name) to see if your laptop has that "feature" - which sometimes gets inadvertently toggled to another pitch all on its own.

If you have recently updated a program and/or the system, you might try rolling back to the last good setup - assuming your computer is creating recovery points along the way - the equivalent of BIAB's Return to factory settings.

Hi Lance,

What version of Windows do you have?

Also, when you say, "I tried default all thru", I'm not quite sure what you mean. Could you please provide a little more information. For example: what steps you followed to set that (i.e. opened Control Panel, clicked on Sounds, etc ....).

Regards,
Noel

In Vanbasco, what is the "Key" within the "Control" section set to (see image below)?

Thank for your reply Here how I go, Control Panel go to sounds right click speakers icon from drop menu click properties then click advanced press defaults for the speakers they show up as 24 Bit 48000 Hz (studio quality) then press apply.
Now with recording the same process ensures and it comes up 2 channel 16 bit 44100Hz (cd quality) press apply and then close the icon. Also I have tried 44100 Hz for the speakers and recording the half problem still happens . Regards Lance

Hi Lance,

It's the playback settings of 48,000 Hz that affect the sound output and not the recording settings of 44,100 Hz.

Go back to your playback settings and set them to 44,100 Hz rather than 48,000 Hz. I reckon that that's the problem.

Also, scroll up this web page and and look at my very first post in this thread, the one with the image. See where I have labelled the number "3", make sure that that option ("Allow applications to take exclusive control of the device") has a tick.

Let us know the results.

Regards,
Noel

One more thing to try; Click on GM in the toolbar at the top, then Master Tuning. Make sure that is set to 440. This control allows you to tune BIAB to another instrument that may not be at 440. Later, Ray

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
