Hi all,
I wonder if anyone else has run into this problem. I was trying to use EWI-USB with BIB. The VSTi that AKAI provide is a customized version of Garrison personal orchestra. I have loaded it as a VSTi plugin to Thru channel. It works fine for the first time, then it randomly crashes, giving access violation error.
Similarly for RealBand, I have set the VSTi as default VSTi. Works for sometime then crashes, often corrupting (at least part of) save file, makes me losing work! Here are the logs from error log
(2014) 4/6/2014,11:03:05 PM - Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000 (2014) 4/6/2014,11:03:12 PM - Access violation at address 00685FA4 in module 'bbw.exe'. Read of address 00000000 (2014) 4/7/2014,1:10:58 AM - Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000
I am running BIB on Windows 8.1 (64bit edition)

Is the VSTi 64-bit? If so that my be your problem as a 64-bit VSTi or plugin may not work correctly if indeed it loads at all in a 32-bit program like BiaB or RB. 64-bit VSTi or plugins rarely work in 32-bit programs.
This is based on my experience but YMMV.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Thanks for the reply.
They come in both 64bit and 32bit version, and I have only used 32bit version (64bit version won't even load to begin with)

Right click on either BIAB or RealBand desktop icon and enable (check) the "run as administrator" checkbox.

Thanks for suggestion. I've tried running as admin mode, didn't help. I've even turned off UAC, still suffering from the problem.

Are you experiencing computer problems like reboots, blue screen or system crashes intermittantly or while using any other program?
Have you tried the VST and VSTi with multiple (different) song files or with one song file?
If you are experiencing issues as I first described you may have a hardware issue such as hard drive needs to be defragged, clogged fan causing overheating, power supply starting to go bad, loose connection, ribbon cabling insulation shorting against the chassis or the thermal paste on the cpu has evaporated. A loose screw can cause weird issues too. If the only time you have an issue is when you use one of the plug-ins inside BIAB or RealBand it's likely not a hardware issue.
If you haven't done so try using the effects with multiple song files. It's possible your song may have become corrupted from the crashes.

Thanks for the suggestions
No its definitely not a hardware issue. I am using FL Studio with lots of vst and vsti heavily and never experienced the issue. (Why would a hardware failure give Access violation at address anyway?)
I experienced similar issue when using Korg M1 inside BIAB too, for multiple songs.

Re: the original post where there are many mentions of:
(2014) 4/6/2014,11:03:05 PM - Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000 etc
This is typical of a null pointer error. Something is not initialised correctly. A pointer to a memory address contains a null instead of containing a valid memory address value.
Presumably you have tried reinstalling? Presumably the driver software is the correct version for your operating system?

I’m on vacation/holiday thus I haven’t been around much.
Did you install the EWI_USB drivers in XP emulation mode? If I remember correctly I believe that is what I had to do, I don’t believe there are Win 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers out for the EWI-USB. You should check to verify this.
PS - I hate typing on a little notebook computer!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
