I know you can enter lyrics onto a lead sheet.

Is there a way to take a set of lyrics, copy and paste them into a song?

Hi BIABGuy,

What I'd do is to copy (CTRL+C) 4 bars worth of lyrics from my word processor and then use CTRL+V to paste them in my BIAB song as line lyrics. I'd repeat this in 4-bar blocks until I'd finished the song.

Have a look at this link. It might be of use.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks for helping out Noel.
I guess I should expand a bit on what I'm looking for.

You know the regular printouts you get with BIAB where you have the treble clef, key sig, bars and chords above the bars?
Regular fake book type sheet music.

I would simply like to have lyrics BELOW the staves throughout the song. I don't want to enter any melody.

I would just like the chords, lyrics, bars, lines etc.

Is this possible?

When I look at the line entry method, I see lyrics on top of everything, but I don't see them dropping under the chords/bars.

Thanks!

Were you after this in a printout or so you could watch on-screen while BIAB played?

Oh, this is strictly for printout purposes.

Ok. Line lyrics will definitely do the job for you.

1. Enter your chords on the Chord Sheet.

2. Go into Notation Editor by clicking on the eighth note shown below.

3. Now click on the Notation Editor options (#1) and set the "Bars/Screen" to whatever makes the notes fit comfortably on the screen (#2). Four is the standard setting but if the bars contain many notes, it might be better set to 2 or 3. Exit.

4. As I mentioned in my earlier post, use CTRL+C / CTRL+V to copy any paste lyrics appropriate for the number of bars on display. The space bar can be used to better align the lyrics with the appropriate bar.

5. When the bars on display are entered, hit the DOWN arrow on the computer keyboard. This will move you to the next block of bars.

6. After the lyrics were entered, go to the Lead Sheet View.

7. Once in Lead Sheet View, the lyrics can be seen but they probably won't be all that clear on the screen.

8. When printed as a pdf, though, the lyrics are very easy to read. (See the snippet of pdf below.)

Print options will let you remove the staff lines if you wish.

Regards,
Noel

I must say, I did get my hopes up when I saw your post and the finished results.

However as I followed your steps I realized I had tried before everything you were mentioning.

I tried it once again though.

After I entered the lyrics and went into Lead Sheet View, there were no lyrics at all. frown

I hope this isn't another bug with BIAB 2011.

I think I am making some progress finally. smile

I went into Print Options and discovered that the Lyrics were set to 'No lyrics (Line based)' by default.

That didn't help at all.

I changed it to Lyrics Below and then the lyrics appeared on the sheet.

Now I just have to figure out how to change the font to Jazz style and how to spread out the lyrics properly.

And now for my next quest....

I would like to have two verses of lyrics one on top of the other in the bars, you know the kind you see in music books in music stores.

Can we do this with BIAB?
There's lots of space available in the print out screen for this.

It would save me and the planet tons of paper if we could do this. smile

Bottom line here is that while many have found work arounds, it is still (maybe my opinion only) way to difficult and cumbersome a task to enter lyrics, especially when you are thinking about doing it for a 1000 song paylist.

With each new version I think maybe this time, I have faith it will happen.

Later,

Thanks Danny. I will keep the faith along with you. smile

As for the 1000 song playlist...
Not necessarily. Sometimes we only need the odd song with lyrics.
It depends on the user and the situation.

As for this time... I found a solution.
I imported the chords into MuseScore and 'did' the lyrics there, two verses on top of each other. No problem. smile

You can do this with note based lyrics using repeats / first, second endings.

There is a video about it somewhere.

It's pretty easy, as long as you build the song in linear form first. The repeats are just a "print" function. BIAB will play the song straight through (hence the linear format) but you can print fake sheets / lead sheets that are reasonable.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
