It was specifically designed with instruments and tone patches that yielded a little-children-light-nursery-rhyme sound. I believe the word "child" was somehow embedded in the file name.

Anybody remember such a style? Any info much appreciated. Thanks.

do a search for "child" in the style name.

look at the category names and try to think which one might have that sort of style.

I do recall seeing it. Try using the melodist to let BB create a song for you. Browse toward the bottom of the list of categories. I recall seeing something down there that might be what you're looking for.

A window in Melodist pops up and it's got jazz stuff at the top....modern, smooth, bebop... below that is rock & country, some other stuff and at the bottom I think you will find what you're looking.

edit: since melodist is not giving you a style..... more of a genre, once you choose that sort of genre, it will generate a song..... look at the style it DID use and write it down. More than likely it's not got a "child" in the name of the style but could be pop something or other....

Art:

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark here and see if this is what you're looking for.

I have an "old" folder in my BIAB file that says: "Folk Songs". In there is a subfolder called "Children". If you can find that, it is full of songs that begin with "child".
That same subfolder has a number of styles, used for these children's songs, but none of the styles has "child" in the name.

For example, there is a song called "child038.mgu".
When you open that, it is the song called "Simple Simon". It uses the style called SIMP44PN.STY.

Perhaps that's what you are remembering.
If not, let us know and we'll see what else we can come up with.

Good luck!

Guitarhacker: I followed your suggestions and I came up empty but I did learn a few new things as a result of your input! Thanks!

Lloyd S: I went to my "Folk Songs" folder, found the "Children" subfolder and I listened to a lot of the children's songs. While none of the songs used the style for which I'm searching, many those songs with their styles and tone patches did result in the kind of playful child-like effect

I don't remember the specific BB version from which it came or the versions in which it appears but I do remember that it's an older MIDI-only style made before the Real Tracks and Real Instruments days.

I'll wait a while to see if any more posts appear in this thread about the style. In the interim, I have a few more places to look for it.

Thanks everyone.

Try looking for this:

C:BB/Styles50/Funny1.mgu

... and check some of the other demo songs in the "Styles50" folder.

soolan: I just check out the songs in that folder and came up empty in terms of my hunt for a specific .STY file.

I dusted of my old Compaq computer with Win98 on it still booted-up and ran fine! However, my search of the BB folder on that machine turned up nothing there either!

I still have a few other places to look while I wait to see if any of the forum veterans or old-timers like me may have the file or might be able to advise me where to find it.

It's a .STY file for which I'm looking and I believe the word "child" or "children" is in the name of this particular .Sty file (child.STY or children.STY) or something like that. However, I'm getting up in age so my memory may be playing tricks on me again! (:-)

Thanks for chiming in though.

flatfoot: I followed your suggestion and the FUNNY1.STY file that loaded with Funny1.mgu is by far the closest thing to what's in my memory! In fact, now I'm thinking that this style might even be the actual .STY file for which I've been looking all along!

Since FUNNY1.STY is written for the 3/4, I'm wondering if there is a 4/4 version! In any case, I can definitely get a lot of mileage out of this 3/4 version in my projects so I thank you for your input.

As I told soolan, I'm getting up in age so my memory could very well be playing tricks on me again regarding the words "child", or "children"... it may have been "circus" or something. However I'll keep monitoring this thread for a while just in case!

Again, a big thanks for posting your suggestion!

Just a lucky guess, and youre welcome.

Try all the other songs in that folder.

Then go to the stylepicker, filter for 'soundtrack' and try all those demo songs.

glad you are learning and find things that might work.

I've found that BB doesn't necessarily do exactly what I want it to under many circumstances..... but it gets me close.

Hey, it's never too late to teach this "old dog" some new tricks! I'm always open to learning new things.

And I yes, sometimes getting close will have to do--like an old song says--"Until The Real Thing Comes Along" and to quote the Stones "You Can't Always Get What You Want"... It's all good!

Thanks again

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
