I just got my überDAW back from the builder. Next step is to acquire and install software. I already use Reason 3 as my General MIDI synth of choice. Since I plan to get Reason 6, it sure would be nice if the next release of BIAB had Rewire, allowing the two programs to be used at the same time in conjunction with each other. The improved workflow would be phenomenal. I know users of other DAWs, notably Cubase/Nuendo, would be pleased as well.

I have laid off of this subject since being told some time ago that adding Rewire was under consideration. My latest version of BIAB is 2009.5. I'm interested in upgrading, but am more interested in enhanced MIDI functionality than anything else. Incorporating Rewire would turn that decision into a no-brain dealmaker.

and by extention added to RB, since that would be a big advantage.

A gentle reminder, with new information. My programs of choice for music creation and production are BIAB and Propellerhead Reason, now at version 7.1. Reason has evolved to become an even more awesome soft synth and effects suite AND a complete DAW. Unfortunately, Reason doesn't support drag and drop. Because if this and other factors, using the two apps together is extremely labor intensive, and frankly discouraging when approaching major projects. In my case, Rewire would free me from the 32-bit limitation experienced by users of high-end VSTi's, as Reason would take their place in its 64-bit environment and not require BIAB to need more resources than it presently uses.

I'm aware that this capability is probably unique to me among BIAB users and not in itself a compelling reason to add Rewire. But what an incredible thing it would be to have the two apps able to work together in this way, in addition to everything that others have articulated.

Bottom line for me is that, as things stand, I may only be good for one more BIAB update. (I currently have 2014.) Barring some unforeseen need for another new feature, Rewire is probably the only thing that would make me take that step.

Not about Rewire, but I notice you said Reason does not support Drag 'n Drop. BIAB made improvements to the DropStation with 2014. Is this still the case that it won't work with Reason?

This is not meant to sidetrack your desire for Rewire.

No worries, Matt. Fact is, I don't know. I have the recent versions, but not installed. It will take me a while to do that and test it. I'll do that and report back.

Obviously, the Rewire request stands, as having it would obviate the need for drag and drop entirely.

I wish more of you had had the opportunity to work with Rewire. It is truly a wonder to see two audio apps operating in sync from one transport control.

Note to the PG development team: Reason runs as a Rewire slave only. (Having it run as a master is one of the most highly requested features on their forums, but there is no sign of that happening.) Therefore it would be important for the PG apps to run as either master or slave. Ideally I'd like to see BIAB, RB, and PTPA with this feature.

I sometimes link Cubase and FLoops via rewire, usually with FLoops as a VSTi, but I have a question about BIAB and rewire. Cubase as master.(altho' it can run with FLoops as master)
There is an inherent delay when (re)generating Real tracks/Drums in BIAB yet my DAW, in my case Cubase, starts instantly. I ask for thoughts on how this would be overcome apart from regenerating then pressing play.
Would BIAB have to be the master??

Since drag and drop suddenly started working for me in BIAB 2014 I find this excellent as it gives me time to stand up,make a coffee, feed the cat or get some fresh air.

Good idea tho' in principle IMHO

You would either have to set BIAB as the Rewire master, or wait for regen to finish. BIAB's very uniqueness makes me wonder whether Rewire implementation is possible, but until I hear a definite "no" I will continue to hope.

That's exactly as I thought.Since this rewire suggestion appeared I too have thought the idea would be brilliant.

I too will hope with you!

Looking back on that statement, it looks like an ultimatum. That is not what I intended. I have gotten the last couple of BIAB updates; however, like others here, I find myself with limited resources and needing to be a bit more selective. I consider BIAB to be an essential tool. However, I am using only a fraction of its power. I do my initial work in MIDI and port it into another DAW which combines both a full recording suite and native synths. I haven't explored the potential of RB and really don't use Real Tracks except as a toy. (I've done some great trad jazz pieces with them.) I'm simply saying that Rewire would be a major incentive to get the next version which contains it, whatever that is.

Thanks. It's more appropriate than the quote from the Roman philosopher. wink

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
