You need to be able to see the wav files on each track as they are recording so they are not hot. Have an input select for each track/instrument/mic being recorded.

simple as it may be, I find it really useful to see the wav while I'm recording. Its frustrating to play through a whole song only to learn that I forgot to click RECORD or to see a clipped signal.

You can't fix stupid, but you can acknowledge its existence and design products that even dummies can use. wink

One of the benefits to RealBand is minimal hardware and software requirements. Drawing the waveform in real time could have a side effect of changing those requirements.

One way around that issue would be to change the background color of an active track (versus just armed) and draw a straight line during recording. Once the stop recording transport button is pressed, change the track's background color to normal and generate the waveform. Additionally, the active track background color could change to a bolder color and hold that bolder color if a 0dbFS signal is recorded, thus acting like a peak indicator.

You can open the mixer window for the device being used to record and see the input levels .. plus RB does show an input level VU. So the suggestion to draw a line or trigger a color change on a clip is (often) already available in the input device software. I'd rather see the waveform drawn out as suggested.

It may require better optimization in other areas of the software to accommodate, but I like the idea.

.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

This is a great idea

The waveform could be rendered from a background thread to minimize impact on any real-time processing.

Yes to the bump!

I expect it could work similar to the way Audacity displays the waveform while recording.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
