Dear User,
I have the following problem using the Count-in options, for example selecting
1-3- 1-- returns 1 2 1234 or selecting
1-3- 12-- returns 1 2 1234 the same.
It doesn't matter which one I choose it's always the same.

Are there any tricks in using the count-ins correctly ?

Mine always gives me 1_3_1234

While I would count it 1,2,1,2,3,4 ......it's actually 1,3,1,2,3,4.

to me.... the first measure simply tells me to get ready, the second with 1,2,3,4 sets the count in for me.

first measure is half time....second is real time.... third is start the song.

Am I misunderstanding the question here?

Herb,

I think Sep57u60 is referring to the various possibilities that can be set for the count-in in Preferences. I've never played around with these options before. Interesting. I've just tried a couple of them out with BIAB 2014 and they seemed to work for me.

Sep57u60, what version of BIAB do you have?

Regards,
Noel

Guitarhacker,
yes, you are right - the first is half measure, the second is the real thing.
I want to have for instance a count-in 1-3- followed by only 1 count 1-- , immediately after that I have the pick up notes. Or another one 1234 1--- should return 5 beats.

Any suggestions how to ge t it right?

Try a visual count-in instead of the audible one. I don't like the audible count-in no matter what the pattern is. Later, Ray

If you don't like the click, click count-in, don't forget that you can also use the current style's drum riffs as your count-in, so there is also that option.

Noel96,

I have the latest 2014 version.

raymb1,

the visual count-in does exactly the same as the audible one.

jford,

it's not that I don't like it it's more a kind of understanding whats behind.
If you play in a band and the drummer takes the sticks and give you e.g 1234
you know that you will have to start with the next beat or 1-3- 123 you start at 4.

I think that's what it's used for isn't it?

Hi sep57u60,

Ok. Have you loaded the latest update for ver. 2014? To check this, have a look under the "Help" menu and then select "About Band In A Box". At the top of the window that opens, you'll see ...

Quote:
Band-in-a-Box for Windows
Version 2014 (384)

... 384 is the latest update for Windows BIAB.

If you don't have "384" in brackets after the version, go to the following link, download it and install it. It could well be that the update has addressed this issue.

Noel,
I got that one already.

You mentioned before the count-in works fine for you. Does it behaves as I wrote in my previous post or is it different?

sep57u60,

It works like it's supposed to.

For example:

(a) when I have 1-3- 12--, I get sticks on beats 1 and 3 followed immediately with sticks on beats 1 and 2 (then two beats of rests).

(b) when I set it to 1-3- 1---, I get sticks on beats 1 and 3 followed by sticks on beat 1 (and then three beats rest).

After changing between the above two settings, it's necessary to regenerate the song.

Is your drum track frozen by any chance? That would stop this from working properly.

Regards,
Noel

Noel96,

that's exactly what I was expecting. Let me check if a re-generate will solve the problem.

Thanks! I will come back to you.

Noel96 and all the others,

I've checked all the possibilities of the count-in and here's what I got:
Code:
1-3- 1234    ->   123 123
1-3- 123-    ->   123 123
1-3- 12--    ->   123 12-
1-3- 1---    ->   123 1--
1-3- -2-4    ->   123 -2-
1234 1234    ->   123 123
1234 123-    ->   123 123
1234 12--    ->   123 12-
1234 -2-4    ->   123 -2-
1234 1---    ->   123 1--
1234 ----    ->   123 ---
---- 1234    ->   -2- 123
-2-4 -2-4    ->   -2- -2-
-2-4 -2--    ->   -2- -2-

First, there is no 4th beat at all. Secondly, different patterns are repeated (No 1,2,6,7 and the last ones)

Maybe and hopefully there is someone out there in the Biab community who understands the pattern and can explain the trick behind it.

Any suggestions are welcome

Sep,

When BIAB starts doing things differently than I would expect it to, my initial plan of attack is to turn the computer fully off and to reboot it. This sometimes solves the problem (I often only suspend my computer so it doesn't always start up from scratch).

If that doesn't help, my next step is to return BIAB to factory settings. This option is found under the "Opt" menu. The top option of "Return MOST to factory settings ..." is the one I use mostly as this keeps my midi driver setup intact.

See if this helps.

Regards,
Noel

Noel96,

I did a reset to factory settings. Now, it doesn't matter which count-in is chosen it's always 1-3- 1234.
I've opened a ticket at PG support team. Hopefully they will find a solution.

Sep,

Strange. If you're regenerating the song after changing the count-in setting, and if the Drum track isn't frozen, then all should work well.

One final thought, it might be related to your midi/audio driver set-up. Have a look at the image below and let me know what your settings are for the items I've labeled 1 - 6. (This screen is found by selecting "Opt | Preferences | Midi driver".)

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
