I don't know if someone else has suggested this feature or if it already exists but a settings overview generator similar to hijack this would be something that would generate all the pertinent settings that a user is working with...and saves them in a text file that can then be uploaded and displayed to a help thread. Then users who want to help can visually confirm all the settings without access to the other computer.

Yes, the settings list would be long but it's not meant to be read from top to bottom. You can use the ctrl-F find shortcut to isolate keywords related to the problem.

It's also a good way to save a list of settings that can be shared if you find a particular combination that works...and technically one could email and then import those settings in a batch. Which would isolate software and hardware issues.

The file would contain basic computer info and then the specific BB info like midi drivers, preferences, options etc. I think this would give tech support volunteers something to look at for a problem...and give beginners an easy way to take a snapshot of everything at once.

It could be called "BB Settings Snapshot"

This sounds like a useful suggestion. It's been awhile since I saw Hijack.

The very first thing I want to see in a problem statement is whether this is a Mac or PC version of BIAB, particularly if it is NOT on a PC (been burned by this a few times while trying to help someone). Then info about the operating system, and which version and package of BIAB.

After that, the BIAB settings and song details. Some of this info is likely in /BB/Intrface.bbw but that file isn't in user-readable format.

As software developers ourselves, we usually incorporate an "Information Statistics" function into any of our applications that are consumer orientated. One click creates a text record (that can also be emailed), providing directory structures for the executable and related files, (and if the files are present), File sizes, Memory, CPU, User privileges, and the last 20 actions undertaken by the program (FIFO). This information has enabled us to really quickly analyze and assist users and resolve problems in record time.

This would be a great feature for both P.G. Music technical support staff and also benefit the fantastic support provided from this Forum

Kind regards

yes, sort of a "help us to help ourselves" kind of thing.
I'm looking at my midi options and if I had a nickle for every time I tried to change the output driver while having Dxi already checked then I'd be rich. If I were having a real problem and could take a snapshot of critical settings that won't necessarily cause an error but will cause hidden/unwanted effects then the snapshot would give tech help a textual idea.

Tech forums like www.techguy.org are good role models because they really focus on the problem and try to reveal critical info at the earliest possible time. I could see it as a feature with this forum that in order to post a tech support problem/question you have to upload a settings snapshot...or at least check a box that says your question is an exception.

Good/efficient forum etiquette is a new human adaptation and having to ask a user what operating system he is using actually exposes a failure in process management. A settings feature would eliminate a lot of forum tag frivolity.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
