No Students for Two Hours

Last Tuesday I had 3 students cancel at the last minute, thus I had two hours of time alone at the teaching studio. So to pass the time I outlined a couple of songs. This is the first song.

I wrote down the chord progression. Then when I got home I put the chords in Band-in-a-Box using the Slow EZListening Quartet [85MST] style , selected my sound choices, and laid down the guitar part.

The bass, drums and piano are verbatim from BiaB; these are all MIDI tracks. The guitar part was deleted.

This is an after hours jam.

I hope you like this quick and dirty.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Man, we could listen all day to that. If I had those chops you'd have to force feed me while I kept playing smile
Sooooooo easy to get lost in it and just float along with it....but then it ends.

Very Nice

Mario,

A thoroughly enjoyable listen. One to just sit back - and float to...

Delightful. Nicely played. Good mix.

Thanx to all whom listened and the very nice comments they left!

J&B - you are way too kind. I have never heard my chops and force feeding in the same sentence before!

Floyd, I'm glad that you enjoyed this one.

Ian, I have found that sometimes just a quick and dirty one, even if it has a few warts, is better than a long drawn out one. As I have said before I have been known to polish a song until it is really dull.

Scott, the guitar tone is from an inexpensive Jay Turser jazz box with 13-56 flat wound strings straight into Amplitude 3.

Charlie, thanx for listening and the very nice comments.

Guenter, I teach guitar, bass and music theory part time at a local music studio.

Very nice listening experience. Takes me back to the nights when you could easily find such great music in "supper clubs".

Thanks for taking the time to record and share your muse.

She was a classy dame, and she swept into the bar like a cool wind.

"Give me the usual, Johnny." she said in a sultry voice.

The guitar player was riffing on a mellow Jazz tune, and the cigarette smoke hung in the air like a day in L.A.

Of all the gin joints in all the world....she's gotta walk into mine. grin

Mario ...

This is one of my (Alan) very favorite genres ... smooth jazz on Guitar. I'm a huge Wes Montgomery and George Benson fan ... as well as Joe Pass and Herb Ellis ...remember Herb Ellis?

Perfect backing tracks and the lead guitar is splendid! what a fantastic listen!!! That was worth the price of admission and more! Thanks for a great listen!

If you don't mind, what axe and amp were you using? Great stuff!

Thanx all for listening and the extremely nice comments on this quick and dirty ditty.

Robert-thanx for taking the time to listen and comment,

Jim - Thanx, I miss those supper/jazz lounge clubs. There are not left in this area.

90 dB - Are you reading those 40's pulp fiction detective stories again? The setting you described does match the song, thanx!

John-thank you very much!

Alan and Di - I remember all of those great guitarists. Don't forget Johnny Smith! Thanx for the very kind comments; I love this genre also and I could play it all night! I am using an inexpensive Jay Turser Jazz box model JT-136: unfortunately they do not make this model anymore. Ebay has one for sale now for $350. I ran it straight into Amplitude 3 preset Fender Twin clean.

Greg - thanx for the very nice comments.

Hey, that was a good listen, and a fine rebuttal of all those overpriced Guitars out there. You proved it's not the name on the headstock that matters.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
