I'm trying to make a simple drum style to use in a particular practice activity that I'm about to start.

And I'm having some problems.

I've used a text template file - the 32 Bars of Drumming Shots template. And I've created the audio track with the drums on.

So far so good.

I named the folder where everything is going to go this:

MotownShuffleGroove_105

Within the folder I have placed the audio file and the text file. The files are called:

MotownShuffleGroove_105_style.txt
MotownShuffleGroove_105_style.m4a

In the text file itself, I changed the first line to say this:

wavename=MotownShuffleGroove_105_Style.wav

And I placed the folder in the /Drums sub-folder of BIAB.

When I go to Band In A Box and try and use this style I've created it doesn't seem to be there.

I've followed the instructions on this page:

http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_realdrums_stylemaking.htm#using_in_bb

Can anyone see what I've done wrong???

Thanks for any help.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I might be wrong here because I'm BIAB for PC (not Mac), but doesn't the Mac use AIFF files and not WAV files? The below link has a note about this for Mac users.

Hi Noel

Thanks for dropping by.

I've tried with both an AIFF file and an M4A file. In Mac, all of the BIAB drums are m4A files. The notes for mac users in the page you linked also indicate that you use 'wav' in the text file.

Done all that. And no joy yet.

Paul,

I don't know if you've stumbled across these ...

If you go to the video tutorials for Mac at the below address,

http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbmac.htm

there are two clips on making your own Realdrums under the "Advanced" group of videos.

These may help.

Regards,
Noel

Hmmm.....watched the videos. They gave an overview - but didn't really go into the placing/naming of the text file and the audio file.

Have placed both an .aif file and an .m4a file into the appropriate folder. And in the text file I've tried all these combinations:

wavename=MotownShuffleGroove_105_Style.wav
wavename=MotownShuffleGroove_105_Style.m4a
wavename=MotownShuffleGroove_105_Style.aif

I opened a PG music real drums style, and the text name is a .wav format.

When I search in the Real Drums picker for my style - using search time Motown or MotownShuffle, here's what happens:

That looks like it's probably the style. But it can't be selected and can't be played.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong....

PGALLDrumFolderNames.txt add your drums to the bottom of the list and save it, click Rebuild at the bottom of Drum Picker.
I made some Mac RealDrum Package Installers, but not on the Mac at the moment but I'm sure that was the file I had to update.
Also add info in DrumStylesInfo2.txt and RDUserMemos.txt then save.
I think they were in the Data folder ? will look and let you know.

Just had a look on the Mac at the script not sure but I had RDUserMemos.txt as being in the Preferences folder not Data folder but the file was in the Data folder, it just gives user info in the drum picker window I think it was User Comments that you can add in the picker window.The main one you need to add to is PGALLDrumFolderNames.txt

Hmmmm...this is what I pasted into the PGAllDrumFolderNames.text file:

C:\bb\Drums\MotownShuffleGroove

Still no joy. Used the rebuild command....no joy.

Still no joy.

INterestingly of the three options, two of them are of the format:

C:\bb\Drums\MotownShuffleGroove

Which is odd as my Band In A Box is on a separate Hard Drive.

However in drumfoldernames.txt this is the format used:

/Volumes/Music Hard Drive/Band In A Box 2014/Applications/Band-in-a-Box/Drums/MotownShuffleGroove

You will get it going it is just some minor thing you missed as in the last post.
The Win version you can just add a folder to the Drums folder with the files in, rebuild and it finds it but you can't do that with the Mac, you have to edit the txt files.
If you tick the "Show RealDrums that are N/A" and it will show the one you added to the PGALLDrumFolderNames.txt in the list, so BB searches for the corresponding drum folder to what is in the list to what is available.

Thanks.

Been gigging over the weekend and not had chance to get back into this. Will check it out tomorrow when the gigging hangover has faded. (By gigging hangover, I mean the combination of 20 hours on the road, getting in at 3 in the morning, and having the kids wake me up at 8 AM! Grrrrrr!)

Weirdly I came to look at this the other day....and it started working!

SO I don't EXACTLY know what I did to make it work! Only that it started to work.

So I'll have to make a new style to find out how I did it -but at least I know that the final steps are contained in this thread!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
