The song, "You light up my life" was written by Joe Brooks. He was quite the writer if you look him up on Wikipedia. Several famous commercial jingles were written by him.

While the song had been the title track in a movie by the same name, nothing really happened with the song.

The story I heard on this at a songwriter's convention was that it was plugged and rejected by 20 of the biggest publishers in the business for pop singers of the day. The 21st one kinda liked it and had a new singer name of Debbie Boone, looking for some music for her first album.

The song went to #1 on the Billboard charts in rock/pop and set a new record for 11 weeks at #1.... that record was matched (ONJ> Physical) but never broken until Billboard changed the scoring methods. It was the most successful single of the 70's. It was also a top 10 crossover hit on the country charts of the day and even earned a Grammy for Song of the Year..... actually it won several different top awards including an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and ASCAP awards.

The message in all that ^^^^ never give up on your songs. You never know when that hit is coming. Imagine the 20 publishers who turned that song down because they didn't see the potential in it.

Perhaps you're confusing him with another Joe Brooks? frown The author of "You Light Up My Life" (and writer, director and producer of the film of the same name) was rather unsavory:

...
In June 2009, Joseph Brooks was arrested on charges of raping or sexually assaulting 11 women lured to his East Side apartment from 2005 to 2008. His female assistant was charged with helping him. At least four different women accused him of sexual assault. He allegedly lured the women to his apartment to audition for movie roles. Often, the women responded to a notice that Brooks had posted on Craigslist and flew to New York from across the United States at Brooks' expense, the district attorney's account said. He was indicted on June 23, 2009. He was to be tried in the state Supreme Court for Manhattan (a trial-level court) on 91 counts of rape, sexual abuse, criminal sexual act, assault, and other charges.

The grand jury heard more evidence on December 17, 2009, because two new witnesses came forward. However, Brooks died before he could be tried.

His assistant, Shawni Lucier, pleaded guilty to a total of ten counts of criminal facilitation.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

First song I grew to hate because of overplay. Between radio airplay, tv, movies and being "our song" at everybodies wedding there was no way to escape from the song.

Ugh! The commercial version is even more sappy than the original release. I hate that song. I hate that song. I can say that a thousand times but it's like a fly and just won't go away.

Well, I like it the first 27,000 times I heard in the week it was released ... not so much after that! Actually, it's one of my least favorite songs ever that went to the top of the charts. "My Ding-A-Ling" runs a real close 2nd!

Well, it was okay, I guess, the first 27,000 times I heard (about a two months span, maybe!). It grew old real quick!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
