When I write a chord change on beat 3 of a bar (e.g. C/ /G/ /), the solo doesn´t follow this change. It stays at the "C" of the first beat. Under some conditions this sounds quite OK, but sometime you want to have this change of the soloist in the middle of the bar. I suspect (and hope) that there is only something wrong with my preferences. I´ve already tried to return to the factory settings, but without success. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance SC

Hi smallchamer, The notes the Soloist plays is determined by the chords. If the chords were changed after the soloist was generated, it's necessary to regenerate the track for the new chords to be interpreted. One thing to watch for is if you are referring to a Realtrack soloist, and it's loaded on the Soloist track, this soloist will automatically freeze when the song is changed (this is provided you have a recent version of BIAB). You will see if the track is frozen by an asterisk beside the tracks name. See the image below where the Melody track is frozen and the others are not. To unfreeze the track, simply right-click on the track name and select "Unfreeze" from the pop-up menu. When the track is unfrozen, it's necessary to regenerate the track. Hope this helps, Noel

Hi Noel, many thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately this is not the solution. My problem happens even if I regenerate. And sometimes I also put a soloist on a "normal" track (e.g. Piano, Guitar, Strings...)with the same weird result.

Another thought that springs to mind ...
Do you set the key for your songs? I've found that the Soloists are sometimes sensitive to the key setting.
Also, what version of BIAB do you have?
Regards, Noel

Is this a way uptempo song?
Can you tell us more so we can test this? Give us the song tempo, song key, style used, and the name/number of the RealTrack soloist.

SC,
In addition to Matt's thoughts, is this song in 2/4 by any chance?

If you try RB you can Generate anywhere you like and as many different solo tracks you like, and also have MultiRiffs.

The song is based on CCR´s "Door To Door" Key is Ab Tempo is 130 BPM Style is _TBLZSHB.STY Chord changes are /:Ab/B/Db/Db Ab:/
and in the fourth bar Brent Mason stays on Db the whole bar instead of changing to Ab at beat 3

SC,
Here's something for you to try ...
I loaded in the style you mentioned above and set BIAB for 8-bars. I then entered C F | C F | C F | G C|, etc., to fill the 8 bars with 2 chords per bar (one chord on beat 1 and one on beat 3). I then generated the backing.
For the most part, the generation sounded fine. This particular soloist (RT 1586) is a very busy one and it sounds like Brent recorded phrases that work for 1-bar, 2-bar (and greater) generations. I suspect that the nature of these solos, for this particular RT, restricts their use for 1/2-bars. That being said, though, every once in a while, a 1/2-bar generation occurred. Mostly, though, the generations sounded like BIAB chose phrases that worked for both chords within the bar.
I'll be interested in what Matt and Solidrock say but, it may well be, that this particular soloist Realtrack has limitations and works best when there is a minimum of 1 chord per bar.
In Realband, it would be possible to generate part of a bar and to see if this helps achieve what you want.
Regards, Noel

Disclaimer: I did not try this (currently not at a BIAB computer), but what would happen if you made that one measure into two measures of two beats each, using F5?

Hi Solidrock, no I´m not on RB. My main DAW is CUBASE 7.5 and I mainly use some of the BiaB files to be copied into Cubase.

Hi Matt, do you mean to use two 2/4 measures instead of on 4/4 bar? I´ll try that out tonight and let you know.
BTW OT: while I´m writing this I have a question to the native speakers (I´m not)over here. What´s the difference between "measure" and "bar"?

In RB you can just highlight that part and regenerate it or choose from the right click Menu MultiRiff, this will give you 7 Riffs to choose from or All on other tracks, or choose MultiRiff again for more choices.

SC -
A measure is a group of notes surrounded by bar lines, defined by the time signature.
A bar is where you get your favorite adult drink.
Just kidding...the two are generally used interchangeably. Technically, a bar is the line that separates those groups of notes, so when you start at bar 10, you are starting at the 10th vertical line. But today, both mean the same thing.

And I've actually had a drink with John, and you are correct!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
