I looking for a good, but inexpensive, audio interface to record my guitar/amp into BIAB. Guitar Center has the M-Audio M-Track on sale for $69.99. However, the reviews on line are not very good. Has anyone had any experience with it?

Is there another similar product someone could recommend?

Thanks.

I've had great success with the Presonus audiobox. There are several versions so be sure to research so you get a model that's best designed for your needs. I also see them frequently on Craigslist in the $50-70 range, the free, included DAW software is excellent and the VSL software works really well for live performances.

Not a big fan of M-Audio. Had one die on me at a gig a few months ago.

"I also see them frequently on Craigslist in the $50-70 range..."

Good advice there. Every year a new crop of interfaces come out, and last year's models appear on the used market. You will get a lot more bang for your buck that way.

I'm partial to the Focusrite stuff. If you could stretch your budget a few dollars, this is a nice little box.

Thanks Charlie & Bob,

Bob, I'm assuming I could plug my Fender Super Champ XD directly in the Focusrite using the line out on the back of the amp, and then record into BIAB?

Thanks

Frank,

If this is the model of SC you have:

http://www.fender.com/series/vintage-modified/super-champ-x2-hd-120v/

You can go directly into your computer using the USB out. Have you tried that?

Don't look for the cheapest way out with an audio interface. It's the heart of the system so get something decent.

I'm a huge fan of Focusrite and have used the Saffire for many years with great success.

Be sure whatever you get has a few things..... phantom power for condenser mics, built in audio preamps on each channel, and that it can run NATIVE ASIO... not wrappers and codecs.

Get that, in USB and you'll be fine. I'd figure on spending between $150 to $250 for a new one. Get looking on Ebay and some other places like craigs list and find a second hand interface that someone is selling to upgrade..... you can get them at greatly discounted prices and get years of use from it.

And once you download the free Fender FUSE software, you'll be able to edit the amp voicings and effects to your exact tonal requirements!"

Try downloading the free FUSE software from Fender and plug your amp's USB output directly into your computer. The DL link is below:

Bob,

Mine is an older model and doesn't have the USB connection, only the line out.

In that case, you will need an interface. I would look at the Focusrite I recommended for $100, or look in the used market. You can usually find something there. It might not be this year's model, but they will get the job done. I would avoid the M-Audio and the Tascam stuff. The advantage to buying new, of course, is warranty and support.

Just run the line out from the amp into the interface to the computer.

I've got he Presonus Audiobox. I've been really pleased with the results I've gotten, plus the included Studio One software is pretty good.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for all your advice. I'm looking into purchasing a Focusrite Scarlet Solo. I've not been able to determine, by going on line, whether it is compatible with Windows 8.1.

Do you know?

Thanks

The Focusrite website indicates the Windows and Mac drivers were updated October 09, 2014 and that the unit works with Windows 8. It does not state anything about Windows 8.1. You can check it out HERE.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
